    Of course throw in MySQL for no reason, isn't that what PHP (ab)users always do? And of course, for something trivial as email, MySQL would seem the most stable and workable database to throw at it ;-)

    Nope, but certain languages are notorious in attracting bad, horrible coders. If you can spell the letters "PHP" you are a card-carrying member of the 1337 club with m4d ski11z...

    Perl used to have this problem, thank god they all now moved to PHP (well, most of them)

    • ... and a lot more ...

    The good thing is that PuTTY will run on Win9[58] too, last time I've checked.

    Besides, how many Linux computers on the road do you expect to find?

    Why would I need a Linux machine "on the road"? I can run a ssh client on basically every half-decent OS and get to a fair FreeBSD server!

    It's also more convenient for me as a Linux Guy to have 'root' login (ever typed 'Administartor'?)

    1) I thought you didn't have to type anything using MS Windows, but you could use your mouse for everything...

    This blaster worm shut down a lot of systems including 911 and other emergency response. This is terrorism.

    Could everyone just stop abusing the word terrorism? Stop the (american) hype of yelling "terrorism!" to everything you see. I don't see how creating (and launching) the blaster worm could be qualified as an unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons.

    Let's take a look at the War on Drugs (yeah, there are quite some successful wars around nowadays ;-). The penalties on dealing, smuggling, doing whatever with drugs are almost insane. 20 Years in prison is nothing for an average crack dealing thug (over the 100 years imprisonment is even handed out). Does it deter? I don't think so. After many years of war (on drugs), the number of prisoners of war is still rising. So the deterring factor doesn't seem to work.

    Did anyone inform Capitol Hill that "cracking" has nothing to do with "crack cocaine" ?

    Ermm, JPEG != jpeg, so your grep won't work, IMHO, unless ya use the "-i, --ignore-case" switch. (Or do you have an alias for grep? ;-)

    Ok, since I _can_ read, let's try again:

    Maybe I am blind but here I read that an advantage of W2K over Linux is that it has more apps ... I cannot see why that would be such a big deal. I still don't miss any apps on Linux ... name me a couple of those apps that W2K has, that Linux should have too

    Hehehe this $500 deal seems pretty neat to me. I usually bug the telemarketeers away with:

    "Oh sorry, I'm in a rush right now. If you give me your private phonenumber, I will call you back at, let's say between 11 and 12 pm, so you can explain everything."

    Somehow they are never interested in me anymore after that :)
