I early Adopted XP-Pro 64-Bit. After some relatively minor issues (Definition of irony: having to go to a net cafe to download the drives for the dialup modem my S.O. bought), I have noticed very few problems with it.
In fact, most of the other problems I've seen are.msi files that were written in such a way that they don't recognise XP-64 as a valid OS, but once workarounds have been implemented, the actual programs themselves, once installed, work fine.
Yeah, OK, teachers are being paid less, standards are dropping. I would have thought that the point to education wasn't just teaching algebra, or English, or Esperanto, or how to climb a rope or dodge a wrench. I thought the point to education was to teach you how to teach yourself. Teach you how to use a library, teach you how to do research, so that when (if you are lucky enough to get to go) to college, you can get by.
I'd be interested to see a study of the ability of 18-year olds to navigate through an old-fashioned library, or write a short essay on a topic they originally know nothing about, but have 1 week to research.
I for one saulte the diaper-wearing genius babies who are still a twinkle in the milkman's eye.
Furthermore, there are ISPs in Australia that offer both flat-rate (traffic shaped after quota) and excess-usage-charged plans. I know I can actually log in and switch which type of plan I wish to be on through their customer portal.
I have to say though, I will never choose to be on a plan where traffic shaping is not an option. I can just imagine a bill coming in that is roughly equal to 3 times my monthly salary.
Anyone can be shut down with this, not just "thugs".
Ahem, anybody in the U.S. can be shut down by this. I think The Pirate Bay will be going strong for a while, as they are still outside the reach of the alphabet soup.
I was referring more to the change in paradigm this would bring to seeding. I mean, it would be cool if ISP's downloaded an entire torrent for you, then seeded it to you at your maximum allowable transfer rate, but it might raise more legal issues, such as the ISP being seen as "making available copyrighted material" or whatever term the alphabet soup is using that day, as opposed to the actual end-users making it available.
I can foresee that if an ISP did this, the RIAA/MPAA would smell the money a lawsuit could bring in a mile away. Companies (espescially large ones) tend to have more money than small ones.
Yeah, the bit where the steam pipe bursts from the ceiling (and looks like an alien's head bursting through) received 47 rounds. Scared the crap out of me.
Anybody notice that wikipedia org is down? Alertra is showing no connectivity at this time from anywhere. Maybe the US DOJ is trying to have the last laugh on this one?

I thought Microsoft products had always been free...

Ok. You're redundant.
Firstly, That was just bad. A good pun is meant to be it's own reword.
Secondly, Just FYI Australia actually BANNED the manufacture of incandescent light bulbs some time ago, and we get by just fine on fluorescent ones.
Just incidentally, could anybody give a comparison between fluorescent and white LED lighting energy requirements/bulb lifetime?
Don't forget about those TKing Fucktards either.
because they think it's an ice-hockey term (Sorry MetaMystics).
The secretary of defence has released the following press statement: WE PWN YOU NOOB NATIONS! ANYBODY WANT TO JOIN OUR EMP... CLAN?

I think the RIAA/MPAA would not like this very much. "Hey ISP can you seed Iron-Man for me? Kthxbai!"
