You're modded funny, but this is actually a very insightful point.
A lot of the reason is political. Those groups tend to have a left-wing bent and the UN is favored more by the left than the right, and some people have an ideological belief in a one world government (crazy rightwingers are right on this, but it's not a conspiracy so much as a shared belief). But global democracy is as nonsense as local democracy is... more monolithic, more removed from the average person, and infinitely more corrupt.
This kind of nonsense is a part of a very pervasive ideology within much of the left that is hysterically conspiratorial in its view of "the corporations" (which itself is just a buzzword for all business except mom-and-pops) and where the government needs to step in and micromanage every aspect of economic life. Many believe it; many also don't and use this as propaganda as they're fully aware of what you mentioned above. Their concern isn't truth, betterment of the workers, or anything like that--it's simply to win their ideological battles.
Of course, saying this is going to make them assume I'm some suit-wearing Republican jackass, so therefore I have no credibility and what they said was right all along and, somehow, I'm just going to reinforce their viewpoint by pointing it out.
What scares me a lot about American politics is that hysterical rightwing element is quickly becoming marginalized and laughed at (as it deserves) but the hysterical left is only gaining traction and sympathy. The left is easier to play up on the "compassion" and "helping each other" element and isn't as corrupt as the right, and you can see that by support of groups like Occupy Wall Street which probably had a less coherent and cohesive "message" (if it ever had a message) than the Tea Party clowns did. It also doesn't help that the left is usually on the correct side in scientific debates and social issues.
With the new generation I expect a fully leftward swing with overreaching economic effects that will stifle growth; give it 20 years.
After not getting any responses on okcupid as myself, I closed my profile down and used a fake one with a fake picture and everything, poor grammar and all, and found that women responded to me (and sent me unsolicited messages) more often than my old one. What I got in months I got in a week with the fake guy. And women were giving me phone numbers and addresses within just a few messages back!
I'm fucking done with dating. I get the picture. I 'm too ugly and inadequate for you whores; maybe I'll just seduce your daughters when I'm older after their inevitable daddy issues with the fucks they'll choose to procreate with.
It's because you generally don't really ever forget how to play, it's often an issue of your brain actually accessing the information. Very basically, connections get re-strengthened.
Concentrating on employee welfare and health is increasing these days because it usually means better retention and better-performing employees, as well as less absenteeism and theft.
". Capitalism means to exploit the workers for the least amount possible. "
Does it follow at the workers also attempt to exploit the business for the least amount as possible? Or the consumers attempt to exploit the business by getting their product or service for the least amount as possible?
Given the proximity and affiliation of the Peter Kiewit institute to UNO, I'd say UNO probably has comparable these days. I wouldn't really know, though.
Oh, no, I agree with you ABSOLUTELY there--I noticed the same thing, AND I found it pretty inappropriate that they didn't disclose their own personal ties to the Cato Institute when they did so.
However, I was not talking about that--I was talking about what the previous poster said in regards to malicious editing. I honestly don't think they do that--they don't need to, either because the people they are talking to are stupid enough, or because they aren't going to the best sources on the subject.
Ah, yes, the days of pre-evidence based medicine where they clung dogmatically to Galen's writings; a proper analogy for modern science if I ever heard one.
I don't think they do that very much. Possibly they do, but most of the time the people they have on the show are kooky enough that you don't need to do that at all. Astrologers, quack scientists, etc. I think they do it more because the persons asking the questions aren't P&T and the show is based on P&T's characteristic personalities. I haven't seen any real evidence they do this, so don't pull a P&T and jump to conclusions there's so evidence for:)
Most of the time P&T just don't make the best possible case for the other side, because they don't understand it.
They're not the greatest on doing science, that's for sure, but it's good entertainment.
And wow, the guy you responded to... HAS to be a high schooler or a college freshman. Like Bullshit! proves anything.
No, it's not. A lot or most of it of it is coming from their own media industries. In any case, even if they are folding to the US, that itself speaks volumes about their own governments when the American government as of yet itself does not have those policies within its own borders.
I'm aware of what they really are. Did you not notice all the sarcastic exclaimation marks? I frequently read people both praise and bash those countries for their "socialist" policies, and sometimes even read someone from up there describe their countries as "socialist."
Keep on being smug towards Americans and thinking we're all stupid and ignorant, though! Your post is dripping with it.
It's a good thing that a government finally stood up to regulate some of these big businesses. I'm glad to see that these big corporations aren't in the pocket book of Indian politicians... too bad this could never happen hear in America, where these companies would just hire lobbyists to prevent this from occurring. This is why we need to completely remove all business influence from American politics.
It's mostly about how Mitt Romney is evil. Last election it was about cool Obama is, but since Obama has gotten harder to defend as he's no longer a blank slate on which people can project their hopes and dreams on they just snipe at obvious targets or make rather unfair criticisms of Ron Paul (which, oddly enough, they avoid most of the legitimate ones).
Talk about the US all you want, but it's mostly the European nations that are doing the blacklists (e.g., piratebay). In fact, the supposedly superior Nordic countries (they're socialists there!!!!!!!!!!!!1) that are really starting to ramp that up.
I/O psych is huge and much of it is about improvement efficiency and workplace conditions for employees. This guy might be going beyond the studies a bit, especially in extrapolating intent from behavior, but if what he says is based on research then he's not talking about all IT managers, but the tendency for IT managers to be that way.
Of course, if you don't like the science, you're feel to take the creationist's path over it and be all butthurt. That works, too.

There are no real communists countries around today. China ain't communist.
"No rights whatsoever?" Really?
Amen to this! You've said everything I was thinking.

University of Nebraska? Which one? O, L, or K?

It really is great television, though.

Yes, I hear people talk about "the climate" and I think, "what sort of witchcraft is this?"

Like Occupy Wall St. supporters, right?

If his comments are based on research, then he's talking in tendencies, in statistical averages, not saying each and every IT manager is a dick.
I've had more than one communist declare to me that you sometimes have to break a few eggs to make an omlette. What do you think that meant?
B-b-but that's not the stuff my college professors tell me! I can't pass sociology class listening to you!
Then tell! I'm interested.
