Designer children WILL happen. There's a lot of countries and at least one of them will be willing to allow people to perform the procedure and some people will come (back) to the US after getting their designer babies from [Brazil, China, Japan, Russia, Norway, wherever] implanted into their womb. When it happens it's going to further the divide between the haves and the have nots by another step (past education, nurture, resources, social networks, and natural gene advantages).

So we have a choice: We can either try and block designer babies in whatever country we live in and put it a step behind the rest of the world who will embrace the technology, or we can learn to deal with the idea. Personally, I'll be picking up a designer baby if the technology is where it needs to be when I have kids.

For a housewife, once it's installed, Linux will never need another modification. Same with XP almost.

For a geek, both are going to be rife with mods, but the Linux is harder to learn to tweak.

I think everyone using Eclipse as their IDE sounds reasonable. I think everyone coding in the same language is only a good idea if you only code one kind of application. If you code client-server apps, stand alone apps, web apps, big apps, small apps, stable apps, cheap apps, GUI apps, command line apps, or any other type of vareity, that choice would be stupid beyond all reason.

Truth is, programmers can already switch languages pretty easy, especially if there's another person on their team who knows the language.

I'm not sure that the claim that Obama is an 'affirmative action' president if he wins really holds up, considering Clinton would have been one as well.

Very early primary I planned on voting for McCain over Clinton if they both got their nominations, but McCain changed my mind by switching stances on almost every major issue. But the truth is, 'moderates' are going to vote for whoever talks nicer and has more charisma. The people who identify themselves as Democrats or Republicans decide who to pick on issues, the moderates pick who is taller. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heights_of_United_States_Presidents_and_presidential_candidates

Free markets are about competition and rewards. Rewarding someone for making up stupid patents and trolling on them isn't really what free markets are about, that's supposed to be the dark side of regulation (a la democrat lawyers). Free market says that you can compete, (software) patents block competition. Or at least that's how I've interpreted the philosophy of free markets and the reality of (software) patents. So republicans in the interest in unfettered markets should be against (software) patents IMO.
