We all know that there are large smelly turds in the well. But what to do about it, if we had the freedom to act?
Please, please, please read my sig - and then read about its source materials. There is an answer. There is a better way. There is a system of government that would make for a good life for everyone, as good a life as anyone could ask for, given the concrete circumstances of their birth. It is not socialism. It is not democracy. It is not capitalism. It is not the divine right of kings. It is a system that was invented almost a hundred years ago, and has never been tried. For good reason: it would take some of the wind out of the sails of the very wealthy, and, critically, it would put an end to that single most egregrious of corrupt enterprises, fractional reserve banking.
This is plausable I suppose, but one thing seems hard to reconcile. If the CO2 levels peaked at much higher levels than they are now right before the 100K year long ice age, what happened to all that CO2. It was resequested, I suppose, but by what? By freezing and sinking to the bottom of the oceans? Is that possible?
Let's do consider the long term situation: for the past 5 million years it has mostly been really cold on Earth with enormous continental ice caps. From time to time we have had these "inter-glacial" periods. They last 10K to 20K years. OK?
The interglacial we are in now has lasted about 10K years. If AGW is true, wouldn't it make sense to continue carboning it up as a buffer against the inevitable and just possibly not that far off end of the current interglacial?
I'd much rather that things were too warm instead of ice-age-cold. Hmm?
Kudos to you for being one of the few, the proud, the people who actually know what the fuck they are talking about!!! Fractional reserve lending is the greatest scam in the history of the world. It has nearly destroyed the US. Let's put an end to the crime. Please read my sig...
Yes, but let's go back a little further, to before 1929. Then American cars were among the best in the world. I'm not saying that life in those days was a continuous party - it was not! However the desctruction of our manufacturing base goes all the way back to 1913 and the establishment of the Federal Reserve. This country has been brought low deliberately by the conspiritors involved. The cool thing is that I don't need to prove what I am saying - instead all I need to do is to illustrate a vastly superiour system. We replace our bad one with a good one, and the problems are solved. Please read my sig.
Interestingly enough, I claim that a direct sales tax is less regressive than even a universaly applied and so-called "progressive" income tax, never mind the basket of loopholes we have now. The analysis is not obvious, and I have not yet fully developed my thesis, but if you think about who really pays so-called income tax, you can start to see where I'm going. For example when the CEO of a large grocery corp. pays his relatively large dollar amount income tax, whose pockets does that money really come out of, hmmm?
Oh yeah, you nailed that. And, for the record, neither does any corporation ever pay taxes. Not ever! Ony human beings pay taxes. So when a corporation writes a check to a government body, and people go, "Good, that corporation needed to pay those taxes." they are completely hoodwinked. The customers and employees of the corporation paid the tax!!! Only a living, breathing, human being can trade some of his or her precious time for money that is then surrendered to the government - taxes: the little death. But corporations do not die of old age, so they don't trade anything away. As I say, their customers and employees do, not the corporation.
For employment: I've seen this kind of rationalization of every single penny of cost happening over the last few years. Outside of journalism, it happens every day...a software developer in India is 10% the cost of a US one, or we can eliminate this raft of manual processes by automating the whole thing. Some of this is good...I'm glad I'm not a file clerk at a huge insurance company, for example. But, it has to stop somewhere. There are some people who need mundane work. Manufacturing used to provide that, now it's gone. Not everyone can be a manager, or sell things, or manage projects. If you eliminate everyone's job, especially those at the low end of the skill spectrum, you're going to have a lot of unemployed consumers who can't buy your product.
Please read my sig. This is old news. In 1924 C. H. Douglas, a true visionary, analyzed exactly the problem you are describing, and then proceeded to design a system of government whose economic infrastructure would solve this and many other problems. Of course the beneficiaries of the current system take steps to frame the debate as "Capitalism vs. Communism" so the average person never gets to consider any alternatives. Pretty much the same scam they run with the "Liberal vs. Conservative" hokum.
Gentleman! You are caught in the same sort of false dichotomy, e.g. Conservatives vs. Liberals, that the existing power structure so effectively promulgates in the political arena: . Capitlism and Communism, (and the varios hybrids at various locations on the line between them), are not the only alternatives. A system exists, first envisioned in 1924, that would not only end poverty forever, but would do a better job than Capitalism of encouraging useful innovation and private enterprise.
The whole Ballmer thing is a set up by Gates. When Microsoft has got its back to the wall, ol' Billy Bob Gates will get on his white charger and come riding to the rescue. Why?
Their tablet gets slashdotted, I go to their website to buy one, and what? It's not even listed as a product!!! In fact there is not even a category of "tablets" listed amongst their offerings. The damn thing is not for sale anywhere. Oh, sure, they'll go far with that one. BTW, anybody want a big bag of Palm Pilots and accesories?
Isn't it charming how I brought both you brigands into existance, and neither of you suspected a thing. Don't worry, I won't ever allow either of you to know the truth. That would muddy all the charm!
It goes much deeper than this. What about the thousands of people who die every year while waiting for experimental drugs to be "approved".
For one man to tell another what he may not ingest is tantamount to slavery. Only difference between the old South and now is that we are all the government's slaves.
If my child was deathly ill, I would not hesitate to kill anyone who came between me and whatever drug looked like it might have promise. Doctors, pharmacists, and pharma employees are nothing but guards at Auschwitz and therefore fair game.
The astonishing thing to me is that the use of the apostrophe in English grammar is one of the few rules that is straightforward, intuitive, and largely if not completely without exceptions. Yet there is now a plague of misuse, even by intelligent people such as the writer of Parent. Why? Is it some kind of brain virus caused by too much television?
Brett, what you say would be abslutely the truth except the existing monetary system is pure sabotage of the process you describe. Please read my sig and have a look at the link. Once you understand our monetary system, it becomes glaringly obvious why 99% of the stimulus had to go directly to the banks! Obama literally had no choice, unless he wanted to have mass starvation "on his watch." Once enough of us understand how it really works, (not the 3rd grade fairy tale the gold bugs subscribe to!), we can change it to end the sabotage, as well as poverty, homelessness, and much of human suffering, not to mention get on with developing our tech so that we can get on out of here!
wizardforce, your sig is more profound than I think you may realize. Please have a look at the link in my sig. Douglas analyzed all of that and designed a clean-sheet system to solve all of our economic (and many of our social) problems!
Sure, just call 911. That'll be safe. They'll record your phone's number and track you down anyway. They'll paint you as the pedo/abducter who chickened out.
My advice is to do the genepool a favor and just let nature take it's course. If the kid perishes, it was meant to be. We only want children who are well equipped with a strong instict to cling to their parents. The headstrong and curious ones are nothing but trouble, and we're better off without them!
LOL! I never saw one of those until I tried to parse the output of our Roche Lightcycler 480's "traceable database". Talk about useless crap! Even Roche is kicking the habit. The next gen. machines don't have a database at all. Roll your own, or too bad.
Actually a "truly free country" doesn't have public schools in the first damn place. If, instead, all the schools were private enterprises, and I don't like how some school treats its workers, I or my children can vote with our dollars and get educated someplace else.
On the other hand, since what we do have is a Government tax-funded near-monoply, unless I am wealthy, I don't have much choice, except to vent my gripes when the school hegemony acts out-of-line by shoving stylistic judgements down the throats of its employees and by extension, my children.
"Stylistic" is the correct category here, as diction is NOTHING but an element of style. Not morality!!
We all know that there are large smelly turds in the well. But what to do about it, if we had the freedom to act?

No you stupid fuckheads!!! I mean both of you - the one world government guy and you, Grishnakh, you weak sister soup-for-brains.
ITS MUCH WORSE THAN THAT.
If there was a one-world government, it wouldn't matter who was in power, because, because, because, why you doddering morons?
BECAUSE, whoever was in power, would have absolute power. Hello? Ring any bells...
> It'll be boring No, then, (fucking about time!), it's on to the stars...

So your point is that soldiers who adopt the guise of spys may be executed when caught. OK, but when did we torture them?
Remember, you read it here first.

XP 64 is the best OS MS has made to date.

The anti-education attitude is a direct product of the drug war. Another fine dividend from that bit of genius.
It goes much deeper than this. What about the thousands of people who die every year while waiting for experimental drugs to be "approved".

monkey's = belonging to monkey
monkeys = more than one monkey

Please do not call CO2 "pollution". It is the veritable staff of life. Remember? Carbon based life forms? No CO2, no food. More CO2, more food.
