...this is why organized religion should be put in its place. Most parents like myself are intelligent enough to know what is and is not suitable for our children. There are those who spent far too many years under the collective whip of the Catholic Church to be able to think on their own and rely heavily on their congregation for guidance...sort of like one of my ex's cousins who think along your lines. After listening to him, I gave him a swift verbal lashing on the subject of who impregnanted his wife (him or the good minister) I said it is your responsibility to take an active interest in your child and address any potential interests they may have especially what they read. Regardless of the subject matter...be it Harry Potter or others. It is up to you to educate or even better READ THE BOOKS your children wish to read to you can make an EDUCATED decision on wether or not they are prepared rather than letting the good preacher decide for you. By the way the only one of the series that caused a major uproar was "Order of the Pheonix" in that the student body was force to mutiny it's abusive headmaster. The message is this is what can happen if corrupt government politics interferes with the well oiled runnings of a good school. Also if you hadn't noticed there is ABSOLUTELY NO MENTION of devil worship in the series...in fact the school pushes a class called "Defense Against the Dark Arts" so if I were you I'd let your children READ, the more they read the more educated they will become. The more educated they become the less likely they will me so easily manipulated like yourself by powers that seek to cripple you. They'll go farther ahead in life than you.
From what i understand, ever since the dollar was officially taken off the gold standard, we've been operating on "assumed" credit in which there is no real basis to determine value, the europeans seem to be doing a better job at this..sadly pricing issues have much to due with the cost of transport. That and having differing electrical standards dosen't help much either. You might ask yourself why is...let's say a Playstation 2 a little more expensive in Hawaii as opposed to California, they have to incorporate transit fees into their costs and then they make the retail markup.
...HP's no stranger to this scenario, they took a page or two from Microsoft's book when they thought up this ploy. This is an example of pure greed, trying to squeeze every last dollar or soon to come every euro as well and feed their need to monopolize the industry. I'm in the computer sales business and yes I predominately sell HP's because they are a standard. Everyone knows it's not the hardware that makes the money, hell they're usually sold at a loss. The supplies...now that's where they get you. HP simply wants to have better earnings, they just think they found a nice little loophole to take advantage of the European market...does this mean Lexmark may breathe new life abroad?
...if this law goes into effect it still won't prevent minors from getting their hands on "mature" rated games. It's called "Mom...Dad...I want GTA San Andreas for my birthday" Most sales reps are aware of "secret shoppers" to monitor their activities so they would already be smart enough to wait for mommy or daddy to walk in rather than risk getting written up or fired for selling ot to junior.
...let's see, before Dell chooses to open it's mouth about their precious pieces of $#1T, they should remember that there is no such thing as a pure Dell...they outsource everything and glue their name on it. Let Dell actually build and test their "own" systems before they shoot their mouths off. BTW...notice no one else is making such a claim?
...my cell phone is my life line to both my personal and professional worlds. I keep it on in case the unthinkable were to happen to my child and loved ones and my best customers have it on speed dial if they can't reach me at the office. In truth, companies can ban them all they wish but as long as you have a serious need for it (like children) they cannot say a word or risk litigation.
I for one ran several lan parties before building my own game server for others to access remotely...As long as the game copies on the visiting systems are registered / legal and the host isn't charging a fee to participate there should be no problem. Public performance restrictions only apply when you charge fees for services without sending a cut to the manufacturer...that's my take at least.
I too was destined to fdisk. I contacted an ex-msft programmer friend of mine turned waitress and explained what had happened to my system. The first thing she said was don't believe a word you hear from the official press and second, this is msft we're talking about...sometimes msft won't take the time to verify their patches before they release them to the public and use them as guinea pigs to make certain their new code works...now you know why my other car is a G4! Apple may suck as a company but they make a product that doesn't buckle under pressure and needs constant care.
Plug and Pray no one gets a hold of my computer...

There's an old saying...."...locks were meant to keep out the honest" (good hackers have never had to worry about them, they make their own doors).
