    $25 for a digital download that you may or may not be able to backup and/or move to different computers.

    -OR-

    $24 for physical media* that can be your backup copy, be played on your computer or an independent player, and is both waterproof and shock-resistant.

    Bad idea. The most convenient order is not necessarily the most painful.

    Adobe does the same thing, and Google has a whole toolbar suite of it's own. It's hard to download something popular without such an "offer".

    Meh, it's not my project. I have that in my sig because there are some people who (whom?) philosophically prefer Iceweasel but are required to use Windows periodically (work).

    My mileage varies wildly. Sometimes Ubuntu performs great (LiveCD performing on par with win2k on a 512MB machine) or absolutely terrible (Xubuntu virtually unusable on a 756 MB laptop).

    I haven't seen any with Ubuntu.

    I am typing this on Ubuntu here, but Slashdotters who install their own OS are very much in the minority.

    Oh, and they now have Ubuntu (and FreeDOS) right there in the side bar!
