    Is just like a big hydroplant alternator: a hydreletric alternator needs a "kick" to start and waterfall to mechanic rotation, but once started he uses a small part of you own energy to run the magnets. And is not a perpetual machine because needs a waterfall

    I Agree. Just imagine a lander with a one-year power source (very very pessimistic scenario, as example voyager spacecraft is STILL operational using RTGs after 20 years), he can explore mars on many conditions

    We can use my desktop at work as example. Is a Pentium4 2.8GHz, 1GB RAM and a 80GB SATA as HD. Of course they run slackware 12 with KDE 3.5.8 fine, but the same machine using XP have a lot more fast drawing windows and applications (video, 2D, interfaces with a lot of buttons, combos and etc), no 3D into this comparation because is a too much driver-dependent issue.

    Well, on a fast machine is more difficult to see any diference. But try to use a low-end machine (XP or 2000 ok? not Vista) with many open windows, is easy to see the window manager painting windows on window moving.

    Finnaly the X Server will (maybe) get the same performance of windows interface? I know about the network transparency but c'mon! any normal user NEVER use this and this feature kill any chance of a fast graphical interface

    I believe the problem Aldrin says is another one: Is the possibility of things gone wrong and the explorers will stay trapped on Mars, like one Mars film where one of crew stay for a year on planet because malfunction of return capsule. The first crew for Mars may need to assume this risk, and if possible having a "plan B" to long or permanent settling on Mars if something gome wrong when they try to return.

    After all, no one antivirus can protect from unknown virus, for example here have many crappy "virus" (bankers stealers from script kiddies) not found on any other country. The best protection still is a educated and alert user.
