    Cool cases really seem to be all the rage these days. I've been toying with the idea of wooden cases for quite a while since a mate of mine is woodworker.

    Of those at the contest I especially liked the water cooled model, although most pumps are pretty noisy as I recall from my aquaria days. I wonder how stable that giant fan is ...

    Since the PC manufacturers have consistantly ignored the design side of computer cases (I've been sick of the PC design for years as have many others). Compaq has come out with a couple of pretty cool designs, especially if one is into toasters. IBM and NEC have both come out with a couple of designs for suits, but for geeks there's been little activity. Then again, most geeks build their own boxen so ...

    Ok, the program is much improved in the last few months, no question. But she still sucks ram like crazy. One browser window in Win2000 and 20 Meg are sucked up. The same as 5 netscape 4.{whatever} browser windows with messanger open and a large IMAP inbox listed.

    Gotta give it credit for its rendering abilities though. And resizing the bloody browser window doesn't take 5 minutes like in netscape ... !#$!^%

    I agree completely, but, the internet is now owned and used largely by L^Husers who don't really know what they are doing. There are often ways to get around these annoying net installs though since the installation source is usually installed in the system temp directory (this in windoze of course) so it is sometimes possible to copy this directory somewhere else and then try to restart the install.

    Or, OTOH, you could just download the mozilla zip file instead.

    And that's just your problem, you were trying to think again. Now go back to your MS shrine and say 50 hail bills.

    In fact, it's Windoze that most slashdotter's have come to loathe. Dos was actually pretty stable and a lot of us hung on to the bitter end until it became inevitable that Windoze would supplement dos. Windoze (pre 2000 anyway) was/is the most amazingly incompetent piece of software in the history of the known universe, considering its function.

    I still think that 99 bucks is a lot of money for vmware. Sell it for 25 and a hell of a lot more people would buy it, I'd wager. And if'n you ain't be a stoodent the price two or three hundred kronkites. Way too much.

    Works like a charm though but I'd rather just dual boot than pay that much for a virtual machine.

    Issues on Slashdot tend to be driven by this group ideal as much as anywhere else; it's a place where it's cool to be anti-Echelon and anti-DMCA.

    It's a wee tad condescending to suggest that it is only an issue of coolness, doncha think? Do right wing republicans consider their anti-abortion stance to be one of coolness? No, I think that the anti-DMCA, anti-RIAA, anti-fucking goddamn suits is just as political an issue as the above issue that so consumes the xtian right wingers. And just because a readership is young doesn't imply that it cannot be political. And some of us aren't as young as you might think. At 40 I'm probably a pretty old fart in this neck of the woods.

    And mozilla ain't never gonna be either, although it is better than netscape in many ways already. The night build that I'm running right now under Win2000 is currently eating up nearly 21MB of ram for one, count 'em, one browser window. Jesus Christ on a Sidecar, how'd they manage that?
