Human readability doesn't count. You have to understand it too. Cobol uses English words instead of a more concise syntax with special characters, and is therefore more difficult to understand. Mathematical equations and chemical formulas have their special syntaxes, and computer programs should have them too.
that said, it's just as easy for numbskulls to write bad COBOL as to write bad C++ or bad Ruby.
I really don't want news stories to be democratized. The people on the internet who are the loudest are also the craziest , the most obsessed and probably the ones that are most likely to spend money to push their world view.
Who is more likely to fund a news story? An average reader or a crackpot who thinks that UFOs destroyed the Twin Towers?
it simply makes more sense to use a small, simple mail server like the parent's postfix system, rather than to rely on some external vendor's multimillion-user system. Especially since the software needed to run that system is all available for free.
Have you ever tried setting up one of these things? I am not a novice and I can setup web servers without much headache, but things like postfix and exim are very old and have weird configuration files with their own syntaxes
The howtos you can find are literally hundreds of pages long and mostly outdated.
And if you have everything set up after two days, try adding a spam filter.
If Chrome manages to "end" IE's existence, how are we as consumers helped? We're stuck with Google overlords instead of MS overlords?
The problem isn't that Microsoft is an overlord, but that Internet Explorer is a crappy piece of software that causes headaches for web developers. If they cannot come up with a better browser, it's their fault.
I want to point out that by your "logical" definition, not only homosexuals are flawed - everybody who is smart enough to separate sex from procreation has some faulty chromosomes. You are absolutely right by saying that a gene that causes homosexual behavior is not very likely to replicate, but neither is one that causes people to be smart enough to use contraceptives.
"those people" are usually undercover policemen.
Bullshit.
The problem is that the people who can pay you often have a different definition of "good" than most programmers.
Software is about money guys.
Which is exactly what is wrong with software. Software should be about creating a useful tool.
For some people writing software is also about paying the rent and buying food.
30 Bucks. And it seems as if this thing doesn't provide the power for the self-powered external disks.
And spam. Lots and lots of spam
Is this joke from monty python and the holy grail?
It looks like slashes become backslashes in that height
Microkernels are less bloated. Hooray for Hurd or something.
I think this technology works best if it can be disabled sometimes.
* Quasi human-readable code.

Obvious. But can you show me *good* COBOL?
True. I think they could however highlight one or two words and ask the user to enter the highlighted words

Well, lets see how this pans out.
It still is. I use it on archlinux after alsa farked up unexpectedly and it works fine.
Well, actually, not quite, the mixer is broken. But I like to pretend it isn't.
most browser understand the ftp protocol just fine
This is interesting since Windows for ARM doesn't seem to go anywhere
I don't want their hands to be crippled before they start their first job!
Exactly! And that's why they need DataHand.
It's 2009! Wake up sheeple!!
I'd copy and paste it for you but slashdots unicode-retardedness seems to be a good copy protection mechanism.
Thanks. I won't ever do this, but thanks for giving me one more reason to stick to chrome.
The next step is to grow meat without a central nervous system at all, in arbitrary size.
It sounds creepy, but only because it is unusual. When you think about it, this method of producing meat is superior.

Everybody is better off without IE.
Unless you mean the one that isn't logical..

It was already open-source, just under a different license.
It also looks like PySide is nearly 100% compatible with PyQt, which decreases the headache people who want to switch.
I think this article made me understand wikipedia deletionists .
I know.
