I truly do not know what to think about this.
I saw it in IMAX with a ton of people who certainly had not read the book, who, in fact thought it was awesome and clapped at the end.
Made me appreciate the complexity of having a film adaptation appeal to both fans of the book and a mainstream audience.

Ahh the ice sound - that and of walking in snow of the perfect consistency.
Though with the snow, for me, the feeling and sound and smell at the same time of a nice layer of snow I think contributes to for some reason liking the overall sensation.
Methinks you misunderstand the concept of 'depth'. Meaning of story and meaning.
