Unfortunately for Be's near-term profit, they're also giving it away for set-tops as well.
Q: If BeOS is free, how does Be make money?
A: BeOS 5 is licensed free for personal, non-commercial use. Be will continue to charge for commercial uses of BeOS 5 and for all uses of the expanded edition of BeOS 5. Also, Be will continue to charge for all uses of Stinger, its software platform for Internet appliances.
This is taken from Be's FAQ. I will be downloading as soon as it is availible. We will see how it looks.
What, no ham sandwiches? We need to get some of these Slashdotters on finding the hidden message. We have people that can find the hidden meaning in anything.
How about Virus Speading Technologies? Nobody can even come close to creating the number of ways to allow an OS to spread viruses and hose a system. Seriously though, there isn't that much real "new" things just a lot people put together old things in new ways. Microsoft has been successful at looking at others and putting it together in their own way (good or bad). It is really amazing how quick they can change and adapt for as large as they are. I mean they can steal(borrow) a good idea faster than Scott McNealy can say "Microsoft is the devil".
I believe I will. I got everything up and running and this thing just rocks. My old system (now my wife's) was a K6-2 450. I pulled the memory, HD, Voodoo3 and DVD to put into my Athlon so I'm using a lot of the same components. The 50Mhz difference in speed shouldn't make that big of a difference but the Athlon is way faster. I turned the resolution up in UT and it still smooooth and quick. I'm using PowerDVD for my movies and it works perfect on this system. I recommend an Athlon to anybody looking for a performance machine. Let's get some good DVD software for linux already. What is their problem? Wah wah they don't understand so they opress. I also want to get my C&C series running under linux so I don't have to boot to windows as much. Put a bug in Westwood's(now owned by Electronic Arts) ear please.
This movie is the first movie that my parent went and saw when they were dating. Neither of them even came close to getting it. They grew up on farms and weren't into sci-fi. I read the books and rented both movies. I finally explained the movie to both of them and they finally got it 15 years later. I would have to agree that the book explains the story sooooo much better but I liked the movies too.
I don't think that is strange that Sun throws some money into the mix. Caldera is going up against Gatezilla and McNealy is extremely anti-MS. I wish that he would spend more time thinking about his customers than about Bill.
I'm putting my Athlon 500 together tonight. Now I need to get a better video card to replace my Voodoo 3 and I can play a little Unreal Tournament. I hope Asus will finally come out of the closet with the K7m. I'm glad I at least heard about it word of mouth. I would have bought a faster CPU right now but I'm saving up for an Automag(paintball gun).
I went to a MS e-commerce briefing held at a nearby town. I went to MS public website and signed up. They gave everyone the latest RC at the time (RC1). None of this cost me a cent and I'm not a beta tester or subscibed to any MS program of any kind.

You just have to realize that the grade doesn't really exist. I hope this isn't an excuse for college students to take red and blue pills.

I have 9 monitors in my office/closet and half a dozen old 14"'s on a shelf in the garage. 50% could be good guess or maybe not. It's hard to tell.

It sure makes Mechwarrior seem a little more possible. At this rate we may actually get there.
