    If that tax accounts for hardware capability down to anything that can record video that is capable of/over 800x600/23fps, in any way (including firmware modification?), pay up.

    The tax isn't really paid by the people who make, import or sell the devices. It gets paid by the consumers. They're the ones who are getting fucked over here. Not the big faceless corporations.

    Or better yet, they ship 'without the capability' but there is a firmware upgrade 3 months later that enables it. Do they tax the firmware update? How is this even enforced?

    Ship the phones with the EU firmware installed and have the US or Asian firmware available on your website.

    There are a lot of people out there who contracted HIV through no fault of their own - one of the largest groups were haemophiliacs before the disease was even known about.

    • In the show, the programs main character, Peter Griffin, offers to tell a friend that his wife is cheating on him because of his self-proclaimed gifted way of breaking bad news to people. As an example of this alleged skill, the program shows a flashback as to how Peter told a gaunt man lying in a hospital bed of his AIDS diagnosis. The man is also depicted as young and sporting a goatee, possibly subtly suggesting that he is gay.


    What about being a young man with a goatee is suggestive of homosexuality?

    That's a big if. VMWare emulates less common hardware. How many people do you know who still use S3 video cards?

    Not if the VM is emulates the actual HARDWARE accurately.

    VMWare emulates the same video and sound cards. All one has to do is check for the specified hardware. Look for the hardware emulated by VMWare and if you find it, turn off certain "functionality".

    The article didn't say that they've found code that attacks sandboxes, it said that they've found code that detects a sandbox (VMWare for instance) and plays innocent so as to avoid detection through the sandbox.

    How long before someone codes up a hack to make a real instance appear to be a sandbox so that malware will go dormant?

    Yes, but that's not relevant to the comment you were replying to.

    Sure it is. I was countering that I don't care what anti-cheating steps Microsoft has incorporated into the XBox, because I won't ever buy one. There are many people just like me who won't ever buy a console. It's because of people like us that PC games continue to exist. It's because of people who cheat on our chosen platform that anti-cheating technology is necessary.

    Also, the mad dash to get new video cards is at least as bad as the mad dash to get new consoles and, if anything, happens far more often than new consoles come out.

    Perhaps for you. I upgrade my video card every 1.5-2.5 years. I buy upper middle of the road cards. I won't spend over $150 for a card. If you bought the Playstation, Saturn, Dreamcast, XBox, Playstation 2, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. You've spent far more than I have on video cards.

    All you're saying is that you're no longer interested in being bleeding edge.

    Bleeding edge? Please. We're talking about video games, not base jumping.

    I have no desire to play the console shuffle anymore. I did that in the early years, I had an atari 2600 nearly forever, then I had the Sega Master System, NES, Sega Genesis, TurboGrafx 16, Super NES, TurboGrafx CD, Atari Jaguar and Playstation. I've lost interest in the mad dash to buy a new system every 2-3 years. I play computer games.

    More younger people know how to use Linux and know enough about it to use it properly.

    Younger than what? Linux is over 30, RMS is over 50 and ESR will be 50 this year.

    Republicans tend to have an older following and they will use what they know.

    If that were the case they'd be using Windows 3.1 or DOS.

    Also Open Source People tend to bereave in a more socialistic view that is more compatible with the democrats views so Linux and OSS People will be more likely to support Democrats.

    No, they are teaching companies what to do to make it look like they are complying with the laws when they have no intention of following the spirit of the law itself.

    It's no different than police departments teaching their officers how to comply with the letter of the law, even if they violate its spirit during an investigation. They do this routinely with regard to 4th amendment concerns.

    It's shitty, but in this country we are only obliged to comply with the letter of the law, never it's spirit.
