The victim is never at fault. That being said, there's an important question to ask.
Why is is that the other women present that night were not attacked?
Is it because they traveled in pairs? Is it because they never left their drinks unattended?
It's often something like the person or one of their friends realizes that the world crashing down on them, so they get the fuck out of there ASAP and wake up the next morning having no idea how they got home.
Yeah, about that. That's a symptom of acute alcohol intoxication too. As far as I know, I have never been date raped but in my younger days, there were many nights that I don't remember how I got home.
I agree, that the only thing that's new is that the police are now treating middle and upper income white people they they have always treated poor whites and minorities.
The President is the head of the Executive branch of government, he is sometimes called the "Chief Law Enforcement Officer in The United States" but he has no authority to direct local police in any way.
He can instruct the FBI to carry out his directives because they are a part of the Department of Justice which is an Executive Branch agency.
Yes, they did but who is going to arrest them? Their fellow officers? Is the District Attorney going to alienate the officers who bring the cases and bolster his career?
To mangle a phrase, just because you take no interest in office politics doesn't mean that office politics won't take an interest in you.
Pay attention to little things. Watch the comings and goings of those who think they're players. Listen to everything that people try to tell you and never take sides out loud.
"Yeah, really?" is pretty much all I say when people try to drag me into their battles.
I hate the games of office politics but I'm a realist and I understand that I have to know the game to avoid it.
And making analogies involving racism is a good way to get people to talk about real problems like this.
No. Making such analogies offends people who have been subjected to actual racism. They tend to stop listening to whatever else you say.
Like when someone takes whatever gripe they have, even when it's legitimate and likens the opposition to Nazis. At that people they lose people who might have been willing to side with them. That's also what a fake racism analogy does.
I bet a lot of people said the same thing about racism in employment.
I am beyond disgusted with people trying to equate everything to the racism that was a part of Western society's fabric until relatively recently.
Your failure to further your education has nothing in common with people who were never considered for jobs because of their race. You could have chosen to get a degree, they couldn't have chosen to be white.
You may think that you're being an insightful, open minded, progressive but you're being an insensitive douche with no perspective.
I HATE KDE4. I still use Trinity wherever I can because that was the KDE that I liked.
I don't care about what whiz bang technology went intro this. I don't care how many man years were invested. I don't care who else likes it. I will reserve judgement until I use it myself. If it's not as good as KDE3.5, I'll stick with Trinity.
That's the kind of nonsense that happens when you let Windows devs write Linux apps.

To buy or not to buy.
That is the question...

I'm long gone. I went to Ubuntu back in 2009, primarily because there was an easy way to install TDE and Mandriva didn't have an option.
On some level, I'm happy for them but I don't think they'll be able to reclaim many of the users they lost to Mageia and Ubuntu.
LK
I still prefer KDE 3.5.
It has less of a PlaySkool feel to it than what came later.
I'll give the new stuff a try eventually but I have no compelling reason to change yet.

Netflix should seriously consider abandoning Canada. Or even, just take a week off and refund all of their customers 1/4 of their monthly payment.
People will call their elected representatives if they lose access to something they want.
LK
Because of my political leanings, I tend to assume the worst about our friends in California but this is fantastic. Hopefully it catches on elsewhere.

If he was black, the police would have just shot him.
LK
You're welcome. You earned it.
LK
The issue isn't that you disagreed with his assertion, he was obviously incorrect. The issue is that you were an obnoxious twat about it.
When he said "people like you", I read it as "obnoxious twats".
LK
Ferber's boss would be seriously derelict in their duty if they didn't fire him for this.
Two words.
Police Union.
There is almost no accountability for law enforcement. That's a part of what draws sociopaths into that field of work.
LK
You don't know me, so you have no idea what "people like" me are about.
Would you be happy if he said "People who behave like you just did"?
LK

Welcome to the USA.
LK
This has been one of my names for over 20 years. I even receive mail under this name.
If you know where to look, there's a clear enough connection between this name and the one on my driver's license.
If anyone is looking for me, I'm not hard to find.
LK
It's easy to not care what people think of you when you're anonymous.
Pussy.
LK
Not all ranges.
The club to which I belong only forbids uncontrolled bump fire. Meaning, if you have a bump fire stock, you can control it and it's allowed.
LK
To be fair, there are the tacti-tards who love to bump fire from the hip. I have seen them at the range.

but come on. Why do people keep fucking with the branding that we know and love?
Stop trying to get the prom queen to like you and stick with your day-one friends.
LK
I talk about retrocomputing with several people and most of those who are both over 30 and a long time computer users remember the Amiga.
LK
You speak for all the people who were subjected to actual racism?
I speak only for myself and I am such a person.
I have heard others say so for themselves.
Most people misunderstand analogies, and they also misunderstand Godwin's law.
You may have misunderstood my explanation.
