    The issue isn't that they're really worried about running out of money. There are tricks that can be pulled to keep spending money that they don't have.

    The problem is that the Tea Party backed Republicans aren't going to give Obama the ability to spread the blame around for it. The Obama administration can pull the platinum coin trick, there is at least one other legal method he can employ to keep spending money. The problem, for him, is that next year the Republicans are going to hammer him on the issue. If the Republicans stand strong and force him to employ other means of spending the money, they'll deal themselves a trump card for next year's elections.

    My implication wasn't that they only produce shit. If I felt that way, I wouldn't want to use KDE 3.5 either. My implication was that their recent work has been shit.

    If someone has a recent track record of making shit, it's not unreasonable to expect their newest work to be shit.

    If Bill Cosby were to make Leonard Part 7, I would not go see it. Why? Because Leonard Part 6 and Ghost Dad were shit.

    Good and bad are subjective terms. I can't authoritatively declare that the software is bad. What I can declare is that I don't like it. I think that KDE 4.x is shit.

    BTW, you may criticize, this is your freedom, and makes for good debate. You may even say "two years ago, I thought it sucked". But it is dishonest to say it still suck when you could not be bothered to try.

    Also, I can say that I lost faith in the ability of the KDE team to make a good desktop. And because I lost faith in their ability, I will not try their newest shit.

    Presumably because you derive joy in being cruel to people you have never met because of a perceived slight you received years ago. About a computer programme you got for free.

    You presume incorrectly. I like hitting fanboys in the face with other, more balanced, opinions.

    I wish I could do away with PayPal, namely because it would be nice to have a payment processor that doesn't discriminate against guns and gun parts.

    This place used to be called gunpal but I guess they wanted to tone down the name.

    It was three and a half years ago. Get over it.

    Count me in his camp. KDE4 is poop. I still use KDE 3.5, the Trinity KDE project is proof enough that a substantial minority of KDE users feel as we do.

    I dispute the notion that it's "progress" to copy what everyone else is doing, but implement it with your own little twist.

    Fortunately, some devs are more concerned with doing what works instead of following the herd. Yes Free Software is great.

    The KDE team lost me two years ago. I don't care what they're doing now. If I wanted everything I did to feel like I was using a cell phone, I'd buy an iPad.

    IMHO, KDE peaked with 3.5.x. I haven't had any interest at all in 4.x. I tried a few releases but I got so tired with being disappointed that I just said to hell with it, so I went to Trinity KDE.

    But I'll also point out that if modern humans existed 2 million years, that's several orders of magnitude longer than the fundamental Christian viewpoint that the earth is under 6,000 years old.

    I think the 6,000 year figure is absurd. I'm a man of faith, but I don't believe that God would make things appear to be older than they are to mislead us. If the earth appears to be ~4 billion years old, it probably is ~4 billion years old.

    My issue isn't with how long it has been, it's with people arguing against or suppressing evidence that contradicts their belief system.

    There is no orthodoxy that will freeze you out of physics if you clarify the areas where Newton was incorrect.

    Not necessarily. Islamic scholars used to view the exploration of science as a part of their duty to understand God's creation.

    Mendel was an Augustinian Friar. Religion and science need not be in conflict.

    I've been here long enough and I have the Karma to spare.

    What I see here is a disturbing level of cheerleading for a point of view, that while clearly the most likely of scenarios, isn't completely proven at the expense of a point of view that while clearly the least likely of scenarios hasn't been completely disproved either.

    Darwinian evolutionists are just as dogmatic and vindictive as any Creationist. Have you ever heard of any of the evidence for the extreme antiquity of mankind? Have you heard about any of the evidence that modern humans existed as much as 2 million years longer than Darwinian evolutionists say is possible? If not, that's why.

    "Creation science" isn't science by any stretch of the imagination, but come on now. Politics and money have at least as much influence over academia as does science. Contradict the life's work of the wrong professor and you can easily find yourself blackballed. Find a fossil that the orthodoxy says shouldn't exist and you'll suddenly find yourself accused of planting it or being too stupid to understand that you since you couldn't have found the thing that you found, you must not have found it.

    I don't care what the motivation was. Who's to say that Google is in it for the long haul on Google+? It could be like Wave. It could be that they're using it to learn about interpersonal communications for the purpose of creating a new AI. Either way, I don't care. I will pass.

    Google is far too willing to pull the plug on their ventures for me. I used to use the GOOG411 service, but they killed it. And I'm concerned that if I put a lot of time and energy into Google+, they'll kill it too.

    So, if I have absolutely no personal consequences for switching on a 60 amp load to cool the larger space, then switching on a 15 amp load to keep my office from getting too cold - I'm saying that something in that model is broken, it's the ultimate freedom - do what you like to satisfy the smallest of personal desires, but it has consequences.

    Of course you do, a higher electric bill.

    If we still had the freedom to use R-12 refrigerant, I'd be complaining about that too - even though at one point in my life it was 10% the cost of any viable alternatives. In Florida they legislated away the freedom to use Arsenic as a wood preservative, I did complain about that for a few years when it happened, but five years on, I'm actually glad that particular freedom is gone.

    Except, of course, the science behind such bans can be demonstrated and the results reproduced.

    R12 destroys Ozone, in the lab or in the world. Arsenic is poisonous, in the lab or in the world..

    Carbon dioxide emissions as the source of global warming is still speculation.

    To pick a nit, nothing an end user does "generates" "carbon".

    highly powerful A/C units are way too cheap and easy to install - you can buy a unit for less than 45 days' energy cost. People need to be educated on the true cost of ownership of these things (and portable electric heaters, too.)

    That's called freedom and you're complaining about it.

    It's that kind of thinking that leads to climate change skepticism, proponents are far too quick to complain that other people have too much freedom to live however they want.

    Not exactly. We'd be OK spending up to about 18 of GDP. For the past ~60 years, tax revenue has been about 18% of GDP, regardless of the rate of taxation.
