Having lived in a place that changed time zones no less than three times while I lived there, I'd like to call BS on that.

You look at one option: local time only. Go global. One time for the entire world. Yeah, sun wouldn't be overhead at noon for the vast majority of the world, but who cares? I can't think of any jobs that require that the local time be linked to the sun's position.

Honestly? No, I really don't. Then again, I don't mind the idea of waking up at the crack of dawn to a clock that reads 2200, either. Why? Because it's going to read within a minute or so of the same time when the sun rises the next day. I'm also not a fan of AM/PM.

24 hour time, one world time zone, and none of this DST crap. Now that people are routinely interacting with areas far outside their local time zone, I really don't see the point of keeping what more often than not simply complicates matters further.

Oh, God no. Stay away from Covad. I deal with them multiple times a week through work, and they're utterly mired in corporate bureaucracy. You can't get anything done in an expedient manner without devine intervention, or a friend who is a VP. They've sent almost all of their support department to India, as well, which means you end up dealing with script drones which you may or may not be able to understand. It's simply awful.

As for dispatches, you'd be better off just laying new copper/fiber yourself and starting your own company. It'd certainly be less painful that way. Turnaround times are generally pretty lousy, and Covad techs seem eager to blow off appointments for any reason they can.

I've got to wonder if that's not the case in a lot of 'mediocre' schools. I had more than a few classes where 70-75% of the final grade was determined by homework. It always struck me as a way to reward those who might not have an excellent grip on everything and wouldn't do too hot on tests, but were willing to grind away at homework. I always hated those classes, and I'll admit that I "cheated" on a daily basis by copying somebody else's homework. I always introduced a few more errors to be on the safe side, but hey, I didn't much care about my final grade as long as it was "average" or above. Tests usually more than picked up the slack.

My personal favorites were some of the chem/physics classes, which were generally big on tests and labwork, with homework playing a minimal part. Those were not only fairly fun, but easy to pass without the homework timesink.

We need both good tech that does the job AND soldiers who can talk effectively with the locals. Let's face it.

This anti-fetal-stem-cell junk is a bunch of BS. Firstly, no fetuses are destroyed simply to gather stem cells. The stem cells that _would_ be used come from fetuses that are going to be destroyed anyway. We're not looking at evil doctors running around downtown NYC in the middle of the night kidnapping pregnant women for harvesting here, folks.

Secondly, the whole "Fetal stem cell research hasn't produced anything worthwhile!" argument is also BS. Of course there isn't much that has been produced. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that it's a little hard to DO THE WORK. It's like taking a gold medal swimmer and pouring concrete around their feet, then dumping them in the ocean and criticizing their swimming.

Lastly, there's the overpopulation issue. We are facing overpopulation, so what's wrong with early abortions? That might turn into one more human to tax things, and if the parent wants to have it aborted, there's a good chance that the baby-that-might-have-been is going to have a pretty crappy future anyway.

So yeah, to the parent of this comment: You're pretty much spot on. I'd just like to add that not only would I not be around to care about it, had my mother had an abortion, but the world would probably be better off in a very minor way. I haven't made any great contributions to society. The same is true for the vast majority of people, and more often than not includes those asking the question. I have no problems admitting it, they often do. :)

My question is, why could the devs do this sort of stuff on the production server anyway? For troubleshooting purposes, use the freaking test server. Anything spawned on the production server should be logged. Any time you allow people with infinite power to play with the average joes, this sort of stuff is going to happen. Either A) Remove their ability to play, or (much better) B) Remove that infinite power from the area where regular players are.

There's no way that spawning multiple T2 BPO's for BoB should've gone unnoticed. Given the rarity of T2 BPO's, spawning one should throw up a red flag worth at least token investigation. Spawning more than one for a single corp or player should almost never happen.

A lot of us view this as bad simply because it gives the federal government more power, and any time the feds get more power it means that either the states or the people are losing it. Sometimes both. The 10th ammendment to the US constitution is getting walked on, at any rate.

Others view that it is a bad thing because it offers a central point of failure. Some will argue this, stating that it has specific uses. Practically, though, that argument is pretty lousy. The same thing could be said about SSN's, but look at all the companies and such that collect that information. If it is good enough to ID you to the federal government, many companies will adopt it for the same reason. When a flaw is found, the belief in it being 'secure' will only make the damage that can be done even worse.

Yet another concern is that embeded RFID or what-have-you may eventually be used to track people. As others have pointed out, it isn't nearly as demanding as you might think. It's a legitimate privacy concern, even if it does lean a bit to the paranoid side.

There are no doubt other reasons, but I think that those three sum up a lot of the dissent. Personally, I find all three to be good enough to scrap the plan by themselves.

Also, bear in mind that the RealID card is already being played up to have big restrictions to what people can do that the SSN never did. Extrapolate from there, and MAYBE you'll see why people are worried. Or you can continue to wear your blinders and take what the government says at face value.
