do these medications have negative side effects (especially ones that are detrimental to society)
Direct harm is not the only harm to be considered, you must also consider if this will cause the person to become psychotic or a threat to others (such as the case with drink driving or steroids) or if this will prevent other people with out the drugs from competing and thus forcing everyone to experience the negative effects (which could cause significant damage to society). You also have to consider if it causes strain on public health services (such as smoking does) or if it is going to be forced on minors, or minors taking it without understanding the consequences (such as some cases of alcohol abuse). With sport the idea that they are supposed to be role models also comes into play, but that isn't present in this case. Besides all that there's the possibility of a GATAGA like society, which is also a possible problem (depending on you're perspective).
In Australia school is in some ways a competition (at least if you want to go to uni). We have a national ranking system called an ATAR, the ATAR is a rank based on the results of everyone in Australia who took their year 12 exams in the same year as you and it is the primary decider for which uni courses you are eligible to get into. That being said it is also about learning as well.;)
Steroids in sport are baned because of the negative side effects (thing such as roid rage), the real question is do these medications have negative side effects (especially ones that are detrimental to society) if the answer is yes (and I would assume it is, but don't know for certain) than these drugs should definatly be baned for none medical purposes (the same way steroids are).
If the answers no then it becomes a bit more uncertain, personaly I would lean towards yes but would be woried about the creation of a segragated society between those who took the drugs and those that couldn't (think GATAGA), ultimatly this is a simlar issue to human GM and one that society is going to have to resolve fast.
Yeah, but its kind of hard to find the documentation when your computer won't boot because the distros upgrader wipped all of your kernel entries, in this case the problem was that 'stable' software shouldn't render my computer unusable.
likewise, for me the upgrader removed every single entry from grub so that I had to work out how to boot using the grub comandline (which I had no idea how to do for a linux kernel) eventually I managed to get into a busybox shell and chroot to run grub-install and grub-update, but most users who experience such an error would have been left with an unusable system.
It also unistalled my window manager, kdm, but I reinstalled that before I rebooted.
Surley if dolphins had REM it would still invole their eyes, rapid echolocation would be a huge evolutionary disadvantage as predators could detect it and it would disrupt their navigation if they where doing the half awake thing?
Whilst I do question there motives, there dosen't actually appear to be any way for them to generate revenue on that page. I wouldn't be suprised if they where losing revenue from this considering the amount of hits that page is probably getting. Nevermind that Nitendo might sue them, that game definatly breaches their copyright (the game dynamics as well as the pokemon). Not sure if it is all covered under parody though.
My mistake, I swear I read that the switches would have to be upgraded (but the fibre was capable). It really makes little sense for them not to roll it out at 1Gbps if it's only a software switch, although there is probably little retail demand for it (and ISPs would probably strugle to handle the brandwidth on their own networks)
1. The NBN fiber is 100Mbps not 1Gbps (although they could upgrade the switches in the future to make it faster.
2. iiNets offers cheaper plans on NBN than naked dsl, which is the equivlant, for equivlant speeds (ADSL2+ will rarley reach 24Mbps, mine is 10.5Mbps up, 1 down)
3. 100Mbps/40Mbps (fastest avaliable speed) with 100GB on-peack and 100GB off peak data is $79.95/month not $250/month.
And I found that without even looking around, I'm sure that iiNet won't be the cheapest and that prices will go down when more people start using it.

Um, I was supporting the NBN?
And you pretty much restated what I said, only in more detail. (i.e NBN is a wholesaler and all ISPs have access and this is better than the current setup)
Considering that the copper network is already owned by one company (Telstra), the creation of the actually changes this for the better, because Telstra is an ISP (although they where required to sell space at there exchanges and lines to other providers) and they where quite anti-competitive.The Internet is now considered an essential service and this allows everyone to have access to it. (And FYI NBN is required to make money after a few years.)
NBN is a wholesaler they are specifically forbidden by legislation from becoming an ISP, all ISPs (E.g. Telstra, Optus, iiNet) can resell on the NBN network.
My information may be a bit outdated, but you have to be a permanent resident (which also requires you to have lived in Aus for a number of year) and on a permanent resident visa stayed inside Australia for 5 years.
You could go through the directions turn-by turn, however I am now remembering it didn't turn automatically (you had to press a button) That is still turn by turn however and working directions are still better then completly useless directions. (I haven't used an iphone for quiet some time).
However maps.google.com does not provide turn by turn navigation, something the google app did (and does on Android) and something which the new apple app makes a very poor attempt to do. In other words users that upgrade will lose this feature (and it is a very heavily used feature) because Apple decided to replace the google app with a beta product.
I'd rather have late upgrades (and my provider usually provides them resonably quickly) than upgrades which remove functionality.
Yeah, but Apples satalite imagrey includes many black and white images as well as clouds, names out-dataed decades ago and in Aus navigation can not use toll roads.
Using what appears to be WW2 survaliance photos, placing streets in the middle of rivers and lakes and moving towns a great distance away from their actual location (see GP's link) are Beta or even alpha features, this should not have replaced a working app which a large number of people rely on for directions. In Aus it dosen't even recognise any toll roads.
I tried LibreOffice for a reasonably long period of time and whilst writter has equivilant features to word, the format incompatabilities and crashes if I accidently started editing a docx document (After more then 10mins it usally crashed). The rest of the libreoffice programs do not have equivilant features to MS office (especially powerPoint).

because then Intel would have a monopoly and would be up for anti-trust.
In pokemon very few of them actually spoke english (or Japanese), the ones that did where promoted as mystical/very rare.
In the English (British) release that I saw Mewtwo was definatly a GM monster and there was a fair bit of death in the movie.

Have you tried turning off 3G? On my Nexsus S1 the battery life triples when I switch to 2G mode (only useful in some situations though).

Apart from unlike telstra there are legislated limits to their pricing and they are not competing with the ISPs (like telstra was).

It did provide something similar, I've used it. (It may not have been full turn by turn, I can't remember, but it was close).
