Do you guys get charged per SECOND or per MINUTE for phone use? I have a friend in London who calls me once a month for about an hour..(I'm in NYC), and I ask him if he's paying thru the nose..and he says no...he pays the same even if he's calling down the block! That's insane!
Is Netware a true Operating system? I have a copy of Beta 5 and I never installed it...doesn't it need DOS to run? I was never too sure of what Netware really was...a hybrid glue to make extranneous OS's happy in banks? (That's the only place I've seen Novell honestly) Is it a true standalone os?
I think it's fantastic that our gov't is finally seeing the importance of science and learning...more money should go into science and the pursuit of knowledge than to guns and warfare...but then again..nothing makes money like a good war:)
Can you imagine? I get kind of upset when Linux is becoming a catch phrase...now every AOL newbie and MS Office Certified person will be banging down RedHat's door...OH! The horror!
I remember a neighbor telling me.."See..AOL isn't so bad now...you can NOW have more than one attachment! Yippeeee!" It's hilarious when AOL users do back flips over new features when they've been around since the dawn of the Internet Age...
I agree...but what is cruel and unusual punishment? According to who? I think prison is cruel punishment if I had that as a punishment. But they wouldn't listen to me....we should use Thailand as an example..you commit a crime..you rot in a hole in the ground and are virtually nothing more than maggot food....cruel? you bet....but crime is almost NIL in those countries. In the US, if you commit a felony..you get 3 meals, a warm bed, and cable. Not too shabby. In Burma, you MIGHT get 1 meal that week...and you only see daylight when they walk you to the execution wall. Tell you one thing though..if I knew that that would be my punishment..I might be a little more careful next time I cut someone off on the highway:)
I happen to think Mandrake rocks.. it's Redhat but better....we use it on a couple of our servers. And I use Mandrake 7.0 now as my personal OS (Used to use Debian)..I've tried EVERY distribution...we have FreeBSD, Mandrake, Debian, Redhat and Slack running on our servers
Hi..I've always viewed the internet as the last bastion of "freedom". The ultimate in anarchy.which is good..it becomes self ruling. The internet has always quietly chugged along, even though flaming AOL newbies send dumb "Microsoft will pay you $100 if you forward this" emails. Most people will just discard it, while veterans of this society will either: 1) Politely tell the flaming newbie of his error 2) Flame the flaming newbie to hell and hope he never comes back. Sometimes option 2 will work..they will cowl in fear or they will just write YOU off as a newbie. The virgin masses who just check their email and go to websites with pretty dancing gifs or WebTVers who cruise the web with six-pack in hand are tourists...and we should treat them as such. Either like the French who hate foreigners but will gladly take their money or like Internet Patriarchs who will let the clueless masses think they know what they're talking about.. My diatribe is over
I have converted the AVI file into a RealPlayer 5.0 version for us Linux users to download. It is not streaming however. It was encoded for a LAN, so it has better quality. Grab it at ftp://ftp.mainnetworkcenter.com/pub/tie-tanic.rm
$600 / month??????? That costs $1500 here in NY! For $600 you get a shoe box..literally. I rented a shoebox for a while...big enough to hold my servers, my books, and my microwave and my portable T-1 connection...and I'm happy. (I get slammed with rehook up fees whenever I move...and I move 3 times a year...I'm a nomad I guess)
>>Linux is already growing in popularity in >>schools. WHICH schools? I live in NYC and it's STILL Mac and Win ruling the world there...Linux is only king in the colleges.
While I would LOVE Windows source to be open..as a rational person, I think that if the gov forces the openness of Windows, that basically is stealing...the government can't take your product from you..and basically forcing Windows to be open..isn't that stealing? Correct me if I'm wrong..I'm sometimes known to be wrong..but not often
I believe they make more profit from their Office App Division...That is what actually made their OS #1..They put out a good Office Package that would only work on their crappy OS...and they become powers supreme. When it comes down to brass tacks, people really don't care what OS they run...as long as it has the apps they use.
Wouldn't it make sense that the Office Products division will STILL work closely with the OS division? I mean, come on. You know that the principals of all the companies will be the same people who worked together previously.
I agree as well..even though I hate M$ as much as the next guy, they do make some good products. In my opinion..Encarta was the best thing they made..besides Windows 3.1 (I actually thought Win3.1 was a fantastic OS...never crashed)
It's like ALL dick wars...it continues today: My pipe has more bandwith than yours! Well suck my pipe:)

He sounds like a client we had once...we were designing a website for him...and he requested something that just couldnt be done with HTML...you know what he said? "Well, get it changed." He actually wanted us to change the HTML specs JUST for him...and had no clue what he was asking..ok..maybe he's NOTHING like the guy who made that comment..but it was a funny store anyway:)
I'm actually wondering if any famous stars actually USE a computer. Even the internet. Do they ever go into IRC? Do they have an ICQ UIN? Maybe they have a Hotmail account...I wonder..Or are they all AOL lamers like Leonardo Dicaprio?
We have one server here that runs LinuxOne..it IS Mandrake..Mandrake 6.1 actually. I installed it on one of the servers because we received a free cd in the mail (a la AOL?). I think Mandrake is great, thus LinuxOne is great. Although I wouldn't trust them any farther than I could throw them. Haven't had one problem with the OS (minus my own screw ups:))
I agree there....His prime example of horrendous acting was Johnny Mnemonic...the only movie where non-sentient, fake computer equipment upstaged the star:)
I thought the Matrix was great...when Keanu Reeves didn't speak or attempt to act. He has the most monotone, NON-emotional acting style of any actor in Hollywood. How does he get his parts? His acting was almost as bad as the famous Thespian scene from Seven by Mr. Brad Pitt--"What's in the baaaaaahxx!"

I think Gnome is fantastic..although I prefer KDE on a daily basis..it's more stable

He owns 21%. He IS the majority shareholder though. No one would be able to own more stock than him, unless all those shares were for sale.

I might be crucified for this...but I really thought that movie was boring as hell...slower than molasses I thought...or was that Star Trek I? :)
