You should do what I do to protect myself. It's really simple.
First get as many credit cards as you can. If you're feeling lucky get a mortgage too. Then default on ALL of them.
I know it seems a little drastic, but hey at least an identity thief can't ruin your credit.
I do see your point and I do agree with it. Which is why I said it takes more dedication and willingness then the average person has. Just to clarify I'm not saying I'm one of those people as I am actively pursuing a degree.
My point is a college degree doesn't mean you know what you're talking about.

You can have a proper understanding of computers with out going to a University. It just takes more dedication and willingness then the average person has.
I've had conversations with people that have a "proper CompSci education" and they couldn't hold an intelligent conversation about programming with a monkey.
I'm not him, but I started small (a regional ISP doing systems / networking) getting paid hardly nothing, but now I make around $60k a year and where I live that's pretty decent money.
In the USA we generally refer to all institutions of learning as a school. Doesn't matter if it's vocational training, college / university, or high school.
It is possible he could be doing correspondence courses or some sort of military training that would benefit from having a laptop.
buy the book and download the ebook version. I don't do this because of some moral / ethical reason. I do it because I like the book on my shelf, but prefer to read it digitally.
Yes, it is an online message, but not exactly what I think of when I hear e-mail. That's why I though the can-spam act was a funny thing to go after them for when they could have gone have them for computer crimes and tried to get them locked up. After all they were stealing accounts.
I've been there and if you like being a farm hand, ruff neck, or gas station attendant then you'd fit right in.
While I think this is a good thing it would have been better to deploy this in Tulsa or Oklahoma City.
While we're at it stick cameras in the Oklahoma County Jail. So when people are being abused there it's all recorded. It's sad when the feds have to come in and audit the jail, because of all the officer abuse.
I started programming as youngster in basic then moved to pascal and then C. When I was at university I wrote in C++ and then in C#. Now I find myself mainly writing in PHP. Over the years of experimenting in different languages I've found there's not many languages I can't pick up and use, because I know how to program not just the syntax of a certain language.
It might not be a good bullet point by its self on a resume, but if you start out on something like Slackware or even LFS then you'll have a deeper understanding of how linux actually works. Then you can add all of those even if you've only briefly touched them.
If bottled water kept people safer we'd be allowed to carry it on commercial flights.
You can as long as you buy it after the TSA check.
In all honesty the TSA is a joke. When I got on the first plane to take me to my destination they made me get rid of all my travel sized shampoo, because it wasn't in a plastic bag. I ended up having to buy razors at my destination. I didn't even try to bring them with me for obvious reasons. Then when I got back home and started unpacking I noticed I still had the pack of razors, bottle sized shampoo, and full sized tooth brush still in my bag and not in an approved plastic bag.

I know what you mean. My wife and I look like an odd couple she's got pink hair and piercings and I just look like a normal computer geek.
I wonder what the ratio of phishing to legitimate sites is.
How is this flamebait?
Oh course. Why wouldn't you be? After all you didn't take responsible precautions to prevent such atrocities from happening.

My apologies then for being harsh.

Are you really that stupid or did my sarcasm detector fail?
We shouldn't be bailing any of them out.

I currently have that patent pending in hopes of sueing them next time it happens!

I guess I need to re-read the law. I thought it only dealt with email.

As soon as I leave they get all kinds of neat things. Real time streaming video in cop cars and ambulances that vibrate things.
Hopefully Government 2.0 will be designed better than Twitter, but still have all the nice rounded edges and glass buttons!
/me moves to Japan
That's some really good advice.

I'm happy with my Everex laptop. Glad it got mentioned.

Who do you use for cable internet? Hopefully they are in my area.
You can call me a troll all you want, but you don't know him.
