    You do realize that there's nothing you can't do in vim you can do in any of these IDEs.

    I use vim as my IDE for damn near everything. I get syntax highlighting, code folding, profiler, and debugging. Not to be offensive, but it sounds like you don't know how to use vim or at the very least have little experience.

    I love FreeNX and have used it for a long time, I can't wait to try this...

    I also love Python as a language and I used to be an it's C/C++ or Java or it's not worth it.

    After falling in love with Python, it is let me see if python can handle this with speed, if not, I'll write a class in C and use python to Access if needed.

    I don't really see why they even really need the bash scripts though.

    If you use any POSIX system remotely and like GUI's, NX is a must. VNC and Plain X are slow (even with ssh compression)

    I have a feeling you won't be writing a class in C.

    I wouldn't ask to use someone else's computer so I don't expect them to use mine. Regardless of what a lot of people seem to think a computer is a very personal thing. Asking someone to use their computer is like asking to write in their Diary.

    When I get flack at work or get fed up paying bills I often miss my old life style of grifting around the country doing random things and only caring about having enough money for cigarettes, food, and going to the bar. Then I remember I have a wife and kids that depend on me to provide for them and it brings me back to earth. While at times I do miss the care free life I use to live I'm glad I now have a wife and kids I get to come home to.

    I lived in Oklahoma for the majority of my life. It's highest rating is Good or class 4. I've literally been blown over. I can't imagine an average day in a class 5 or class 6 area short of a tornado.

    I guess I should have elaborated a little bit. I'll rephrase it.

    Contact a lawyer and if he deems to worthy of fair use have him fire a letter off. During this period keep what ever it is up and let a judge sort it out.

    Yes, I know it's not a cheap proposition.

    I have to agree with you. My mother bought my a computer a computer (486 sx/25) when I was in the 3rd grade and I nearly gave her a heart attack when I had it in pieces and installed the new 9600 baud modem she had bought me. I also ran a BBS in the 4th grade. People under estimate the intelligence of children.

    I can say I was in the same boat as you. Once I got it installed I wasn't really sure what to do with it either. I got on IRC and called some bbses. Not really anything different than I was doing on my DOS setup. Just like you I'm typing on a slackware box right now.

    I installed Slackware when I was in 4th grade (93-94) for the first time. I don't really think advanced computer skills were required before 2000. It took a lot of reading on Usenet and various places, but if a little kid could figure it out in the early 90's I don't see why an adult would couldn't figure it out if they wanted to.

    Not sure about other distros, but Slackware still ships 3.5. :)

    They don't need to worry about that. If they do then they silently drop the case and score points and maybe even a "friend" Washington.

    They're are still a variety of ways to get around those scenarios as well. The point of my post wasn't to say you were wrong, but to point out the monitoring software could work in the majority of the cases even though they can't directly connect to the laptop.

    I have a background process that runs and makes a connection to an ip and says "Hey are you wanting to monitor me?" If the question is yes than the monitoring software does a connect back to the person wanting to monitor it.
