If you install a shiny new copy of XP with SP2, your time to be owned is 4 minutes. It takes much longer than that to download patches to fix the problems that time to own studies find on the network. Even if you had a CD with all of the patches, obtained using another OS, you only have till next patch tuesday before the probes change and get you. These things have not changed over the last ten years and they won't. Spam is a Windows problem.
