- There are hundreds, thousands of "coffeeshops" all over Holland, where everyone over 18 is allowed to buy as much as 5 grammes hash or weed; - As a result, selling weed is legal for coffeeshops; - The same coffeeshops are not allowed to sell alcohol; - Smoking tobacco is not allowed in coffeeshops, however, smoking pure hash/weed is okay. No one cares. - The coffeeshops are *not* allowed to buy weed/hash from growers (so technically, they have to commit crimes on a daily basis to be able to stay in business) - The police will look the other way for this so it's only illegal on paper. - On the other hand, growing weed is prohibited, and police are actively looking for plantations, and prosecuting the owners; - But: it is legal for anyone to grow up to 4 plants in their home, "for personal use". You cannot sell any of that. - The dutch take pride in this confusing, schizofrenic mess, calling it "tolerant".
I have a business at my home with me being the only employer. But I received a letter from the SENA (equivalent of PRS) stating that I need to pay for music played in my own home, for my ears only. The letter showed 2 options: "1. I don't play music at all" and "2. I do play music, please send me a check". I missed the option "3. I have a private business in my home without any personnel so I can play any music I like for free, sod off". I complained about that and after a few months and several letters, I got the answer: "you're right sir, but most people pay anyway!" We're talking about 90 Euro each year minimum.
Please note that this SENA is backed by the government. It's a crooked world.
And they take with them all good things. One day, the only thing that's left of the beatles is that Yoko bitch and her army of lawyers, and that guy with the big nose, whatshisname, Gringo Fart or something.
By then, all music will be banned because record companies failed to find a way to charge people as soon as music hits their ears so they decided to eliminate music entirely.
Desktops reliance on Windows desktop objects means that it cannot provide some of the functionality of other virtual desktop utilities, however. For example, Windows doesn't provide a way to move a window from one desktop object to another, and because a separate Explorer process must run on each desktop to provide a taskbar and start menu, most tray applications are only visible on the first desktop. Further, there is no way to delete a desktop object, so Desktops does not provide a way to close a desktop, because that would result in orphaned windows and processes. The recommended way to exit Desktops is therefore to logoff.
About every other OS has had multiple desktops for ages, nicely implemented, now *finally* MS gives it a try, and they fail miserably. Sad.
Surya Namaskar, or the Salutation to the sun is a extremely powerful yoga exercise that will train all your muscles, improves your condition and you will burn a lot of calories as well. Best of all you don't need any equipment, don't have to get outside, just 2 square meters space is all you need.
It's a succession of 12 postures that flows into one fluent movement. Google will show you lots of pages on how to perform them, but I recommend taking a few lessons at a yoga school because if you do it wrong or force things too much, it *can* be harmful. I once hurt my back cause I was too enthousiastic.
I successfully used this exercise to battle my RSI and still use it to keep my weight and condition. Highly recommended.
"All it took was $4/gallon gas I guess."
In the Netherlands, due to massive taxing, that's almost what we pay for one *litre*, being about 0.23 gallon... That must be why we're still using windmills for energy, cause wind's free, although lately I heard they're planning to tax wind too.
The key is *learning* here. A master mason/fighter/chessplayer/whatever *can* teach someone who will be better than his/her teacher. The only thing we have to do is find out how learning works exactly, and than it's just a matter of time. Computing power is not an issue, nor is memory or storage. Imagine a huge, HUGE neural network fitted with the ultimate learning algorithms - it will beat humankind easily.
Problem is that the process of learning and adaptation is far from trivial. But I'm fairly confident we'll be able to solve this mystery sooner or later. I agree with you though that we won't be able to understand our own creation. We'll be creating enigmas. I'm not sure whether that will be a good thing....
That's like saying that Achilles cannot possibly win from the tortoise in the famous running contest where the tortoise has a 100 meter head start.

Yes, we're a crazy lot.

They shouldn't have blocked all those freedom loving hacking sites with their Great Chinese Firewall.
