i have had more issues getting dsl to run on any number of system then any other linux distro or windows for that fact. if you have a system that runs dsl with no problems it's sweet but it's also rare. AFAIR it runs on 2.4 series kernel, but apart from that it should be fine on all but the most bleeding edge computers. I've never had any problems on stationary compies, and only problems with lappies when using old versions of dsl. Ofc, YMMV.

I wonder if there's a market for selling low UID accounts.
I remember some guy who did; he kept getting attacked by a "he's an imposter"-troll, that basically replied all his posts with a copy-pasted text about him having purchased his user account on eBay.
This, in turn, led to him copy-pasting his own reply to that; that he had purchased it as a birthday gift to himself, etc.

Honestly, I can't see the problem. Low UIDs are not a way of demonstrating that you are the son of God, it just gets you a few seconds extra of consideration compared to the higher digit ones.

Funny, I used every single Mandrake release from 8.0 through 10.1 and never ran into text that wasn't properly translated into English.

And what he said was "NO, I don't like the French either."

Honestly, why is it that every time someone says something bigoted on slashdot, there's always a large contingent of people who jump up to provide all kinds of excuses, or else just blame everyone else for noticing that it was insulting? I don't get it.
I often wonder if it's related to all the Libertarians on /., since I've noticed that the Libertarians I've met IRL have been really sheltered, really white guys with a complete tin ear for anything remotely connected to racism or social relations between different groups of people.
Whoooah, calm down there. It's funny how you completely disregarded that I clearly wrote that I read it as being about the language, and went and used me as a straw argument for your view point. I did not blame anyone for anything, I just said that I read it differently. Hell, you're most likely right, but I clearly, unlike you, am not used to people saying stuff about not liking the French (being European, I'm more used to people disliking Americans). Please try to moderate yourself in the future; when you write posts like above it will most likely be regarded as flamebait.

As for Mandrake, it's been at least half a dozen years since I've seriously played with it; I can't remember more details than I've already provided as I discarded Mandrake back then. Maybe my memory serves me wrong? Maybe it was only when I was looking for specific documentation on their web page.

Who says my customers are technically literate? Apart from that, you shouldn't assume that because my tool is wrong in your world view, it is just plain wrong. If my customers end up deleting my mail, I don't get harmed in any way, nor does my business. They, however, risk litigation for improper handling of business correspondance. If something horrendous happens after 2X time, your ass is pretty much covered, and everyone will just say 'Wow! People often bring up the need for folders, but that seems spurious. There's no reason not to treat labels/tags/flags/whatever gmail is calling them as IMAP folders. Hell, if they could get the 'tags' feature to work with the IMAP clients, I wouldn't be complaining. The problem would be that the IMAP spec does not (AFAIK) support anything like tags. But hell, I wouldn't be one to complain if they pushed for an IMAP5 that supported tags instead of folders :)

There are command-line and GUI tools to edit ID3s in a meaningful way, making it possible to batch-change the ID3s before you import them into iTunes.

Those can be handy, but you can easily do the same in iTunes. Just select the songs you want to change info for en masse hit info (command-I) and change the relevant info. (I'm sure you know that, this is really for the GP.)

I know, but the point of editing the ID3s before importing would be that with the amount of shows he says he'd import, and the condition he describes them as being in, it makes a lot more sense to edit the tags before they're scattered into his iTunes library.

Apart from the price differences on these, there's also the size and power consumption to consider.
