In the UK, those houses of corruption are in the process of being closed down. As our fearless leaders will no doubt inform you, 'Big Society' demands 'Big Spaces', and some of our biggest spaces are filled to the brim with stupidly big books. As part of on-going austerity measures, and in the name of weaning the UK off fossil fuels, those big books will be reused as part of a new initiative to create a carbon neutral winter fuel allowance for the elderly. Once cleared of the big books, the expectation is that Tesco and Sainsburies will become the custodians of those big spaces. Without big tins of baked beans on big shelves in big spaces, big society could never claim to be full of beans. It is a perfectly simple idea, and yet there are still people who are protesting all of this! Why can't they understand the flawless logic in this argument?
They sell the refurbs via dell outlet. I bought a rather nice XPS from dell outlet a few years ago (with a big discount). It's still going strong, so I assume they fix them before sending them out again.....
I've tried looking for it on AOL, but I can't figure out how to connect my 56k modem to my iPhone. I suppose I could try using a newer CD? Will that help?
They were reacting to microsofts monopoly on the OS market in the mid 90's, and aimed to produce a free version. IIRC, a number of academics got involved because it was very useful to help teach the kernel differences between WinNT and linux (obviously you can't look at the actual WinNT source!).
But "stereotypes" exist for a reason: they have a basis in reality.
Welsh people shag sheep.
Mexicans are lazy.
French people wear garlic.
Irish people are thick
Clichés are based in reality, but stereotypes tend to be rooted in prejudice. FWIW, I used to teach C++ to fairly mixed classes (~40% female). I'm sorry to break it you, but women are just as good at men at programming. There is one big difference though. Men don't have to put up with absurd comments such as: "Oh sure. She's a very talented engineer who's probably more than capable of doing the job, but she is a women, and we all know that stereotypes are true right?". Do you not see the hypocrisy in your own post there? Women find the idea of working in the software industry extremely off putting, and it doesn't take a genius to figure out why.....
not sure whether it's a waste of time if you plan to become, say, a doctor, a plumber, etc...
A librarian with programming knowledge would be snapped up immediately (since most libraries are being forced to digitise their collections).
Someone who can speak arabic would be much better writing an english -> arabic translator than the vast majority of programmers.
If you're writing animation software, an animator who can program is much more valuable than a programmer who knows nothing about animation.
That's really the problem with recruitment though isn't it? There are plenty of programmers around, however there are very few people with (insert relevant skill here) who can actually program! Since CS tends to be the place where most people learn programming, how is that going to help us recruit a biologist with programming experience? Exposing children to programming at school gives them a chance to specialise in a subject other than CS, and still have a chance at employment as a programmer in the future....
png isn't good enough for film work. (OpenEXR or tiff usually a better option, and yes they do compression!). 35Mb per frame is a massive underestimation. Floating point: colour channels, depth maps, alpha, N dot L, roto, & edge detect passes tend to end up eating gigabytes of space rather quickly.....
Depends where you are in the world. The Pi isn't being made in the UK because you pay a flat fee on each component imported. It's far cheaper to simply pay the fee once for the complete product....
Just move the offending developer to another poorly documented part of the codebase. Repeat that a few times, and they soon learn why code comments are a good idea....
Which is why the lion idea has legs. Just dress the prospective father in a gazelle suit, and point him in the direction of dave the lion. I imagine it would prove to be an extremely effective contraceptive.
which kinda defeats the point of the industries drive towards more efficient devices with longer battery life. I overclocked my netbook once. Most pointless thing I've ever done. It's now underclocked to eek out a little more battery life.....
It was simply a marketing ploy. The thinking was that PS3 sounded 1 better than XBox2, so they simply used a bigger number starting with 3 (to help parents understand they are equivalent). I imagine it will carry on in the same vein, so expect the "Xbox 404 Not Found" to hit the shops in a couple of years time.....
Not when you figure in the cost of the iPad, and the inevitable cost of replacing them at least 5 times owing to smashed screens after various playground antics.
nothing says quality like brightly colored plastic.
A bright pink Pentax K-x, paired with a DA40mm pancake lens, looks like it's too small to be an SLR, but too big to be an expensive point and shoot (which are considerably smaller). This was one of the main reasons why I bought one for the missus (who at the time lived in a very rough part of south london). To a mugger it simply screams "Don't steal this, none of your mates will want to buy it!". As an added bonus, it also happens to be a very good camera....
I propose these houses of corruption be banned

Truth is, if vinyl was still mainstream these days
It's more mainstream than cassette tapes or mini discs. Have you been clubbing recently?

Multiple, low power, semi useless processor cores? Sounds like sony has just found the silicon to power the Playstation 4! :p

They don't have a patent on trees, dammit!
these guys do.....

Yes, the National Health Service is wonderful. :p
Overpopulation is currently a bigger concern.

Benchmarks, smenchmarks. The only thing we want to know is if it includes a giant enemy crab.

No, they didn't make the first DSLR 20 years ago.
Correct, it was 35 years ago... here's the patent
