  1. Re:Cable Modem on Cable vs. DSL, Explained · · Score: 1

I have Cable, it's gone out twice in the year I've had it, and my IP has never changed. On the few occasions that I've had ANY problem, their level 1 Tech Support people were pretty useless. I've called them twice, and twice I solved their problem in my mind and gave up. But on the whole I have no complaints about cable, I even put 1188K on the T1 at work using my cable modem. Neato spike on the usage charts. My boss almost bought another T1.

OR, remove the entire system and NOT start over. I'm adminning a couple HUNDRED domains, this is great fun.

I have actually detected people sniffing, and the logfiles produced are very helpful. Between this and L0phtCrack, you couldn't ask for a better (free) security suite.

  4. --time served on Mitnick Finally Receives Federal Sentence · · Score: 1

46 Months MINUS time served, does this mean they give him 7 months BACK somehow? Since he's been in for 53? I don't get it. I guess he better not buy a digital watch anytime soon. My Casio has more memory than my first "computer" seems to have.

  5. Here comes the holy war to end all Linux/NT wars.. on Vintage Computers on the New York Times · · Score: 2

Oh no... Started with a TI4/a, then got into Atari 8-bits, with an 800 that I paid $600 for (I was like 11). I had 3 more 8-bits, made my own joysticks too. Then the ST's, 2 of those, RAM upgraded through days of hard labor. Now my PC's video card has more RAM than my first 8 machines combined, and what do I do? EMULATE MY FIRST 7 MACHINES. Atari ruled, get over it. 8 bit Atari had 256 colors onscreen and stereo sound, 16 bit Atari's had Midi ports and through those 32 machine networked video games! Atari's are STILL used by many Midi musicians, how many post production guys still use a Toaster that isn't a PC addon?

    Flame ON! Just kidding...

  6. Re:Upadte on the server for those interested. on Ask Slashdot: Linux and IDE CD-ROM Changers · · Score: 1

You can have up to 4 IDE controllers for 8 IDE devices, I believe. This is exactly the thread I've been waiting for, cause I need to embezzle a 4x4 from work to serve like 3 discs. Doesn't sound like it will be SEAMLESS, but maybe not that bad really.

  7. Had to dump this somewhere on Typical Misinterpretation Of "Hacker" · · Score: 1

Since I spent a long time trying to bang out a sufficient explanation of why these guys SUCKED, only to have them tell ME that MY default mail client was not installed properly...

I assume by "adres" you mean "address"? At any rate, your "hacker" line is exceptionally poorly thought out. You misrepresent the true "hacker" and place us all in the guise of a 15 year old kid sending crappy script to other idiot kids to wreck their machines. Where is the skill, the sense of discovery, the power of the true hacker. By the way, I congratulate you on making a page totally useless in Netscape AND IE...

Oh well, no one there will ever read it, oh well.
