actually, i think the original problem stems from attempting to use a linux cluster as the firewall and cisco's hsrp protocol for backbone connect failover. the issue is that if the cluster node which is plugged into the primary backbone line fails, the second node can't inform the cisco router to switch to its backup. i think you could put a hub between the firewall cluster and the hsrp lines to get around this, but then you have a single point of failure. but my experience as a seamless integrator of leveraged synergies says that pre-ipo b2b's should consider this option going forward.
certification is not a meaningless scam. a company who hires you to set up their network is obviously not knowledgeable, otherwise they'd do it themselves. certification is reassuring to those without a tech background, who comprise the vast majority of the population. Would you hire a lawyer with 20 years experience in another state but hasn't passed the bar in yours?
to anyone with familiarity in the music industry, the big record/cd companies are the bloodsucking leeches of musical freedom and expression. profit margins on cd's as distributed in the US are vastly higher than for any other format in history, and spending on artist development is at an all-time low. record companies are responsible for the relative lack of creative new music in the last decade and suppressing distribution of indie labels by music chains. FUCK 'EM. rip away. buy mp3's direct from the artist. most artists will do better by selling you an entire release by download for 25 cents than they will if you buy their $14.95 cd.
yes, it's the common sense which our legal system is built on that gave a $$$ settlement to an idiot who spilled McDonald's coffee in his lap, and common sense which set OJ Simpson free. Common sense has also dictated the Lebanese law prohibiting commerce with companies that do business with Israel (to wit, the case with intel). It's not religious zealotry at all. and if anyone tries to tell you that the golden age of Athenian democracy started in 500 BC, that's crap. Our Constitution, over 200 years old, came first.
the modern geek has a spirit of adventure which allows him or her to move. inertia controls the majority of people so they still live in the town they were born in. san francisco has a huge population of people who moved here from all over the world. this has been going on since the 1800's and obviously isn't limited to geek types. what you get here, if you're willing to uproot, is a progressive, artistic, diverse community, employment opportunities at the technology center of the universe, surfing, skiing, culture, you name it. you don't get $300 a month rent, but why is everyone crying about cheap housing? you're one of the most highly paid groups of people on the planet... I don't think free high speed net access, unlimited Jolt, and a Fry's on every block would convince anyone to move to Pittsburgh.
would anyone like to discuss the GODDAMN NEW PROCESSORS??
Yay! yay! more blood!
