problem with any solution like that is that you'd have to seal the windows. Roll down the window and the signals can get out. plus you'd have to have some kind of clear conductive coating over all the windows.
It would also mean that you couldn't use your phone when on the bus or train and god knows how it would differentiate between the vibration from walking and being in a car.
Better ban talking to people in the car with you as well. and car radios. And thinking about things you plan to do that day.
Which studdies? The only ones I've ever heard of have nothing to do with texting and are all about talking to people on the other end of a phone. When something unexpected comes up generally the other people in the car talking will shut the hell up since they want to live, someone at the other end of a phone line keeps talking(and distracting). Dictating a text messege would not have that problem since the driver can shut up and concentrate on the road if he suddenly has to.
you were tarring all libertarians with one brush and an insulting one at that.
by the very nature of libertarianism it's supporters tend to be somewhat less than unified in their beliefs. Even the core beliefs best summarised as "just leave me the hell alone" aren't universal amongst all flavours of libertarians.
I'm a big fan but I can't play the default game. I use the mayday tileset which makes it all good.
The interface is terrible (until you're used to it at which point you don't want it to change because it's really very fast) The graphics are non-existent.
And yet it's an absolutely epic game.
Read boatmurdered to discover the wonders of the game- http://lparchive.org/LetsPlay/Boatmurdered/ it's from an old version but it captures what's awesome about the game perfectly.

Internet based crime has got to me a massive headache for the police to try to deal with.
juristiction problems are almost guaranteed and even identifying the criminal with enough certainty for a court of law would take a hell of a lot of effort.
I'm told if you do most of the work for them- hand them a case on a silver platter and somehow find someone who definitly has juristiction you can get some results but otherwise forget it.
the fact that people generally don't die or show up on newspaper front pages with cut up faces also lowers it priority.
Who said anything about which parts are vital or not? Should not? dunno. Might not? absolutely. You asked and I merely provided a situation where copyright, specifically as it pertains to derivative works can prevent better products from being produced.
and when she did need the Union due to a crappy boss they didnt do crap to help her.
If they can force her to join and if she can't walk away and join another or simply go without a union then they have absolutely zero incentive to help.
personally I've for unions but that doesn't mean I think they should have carte-blanche to do whatever they want.
I'm all for rules forbidding discrimination based on membership of a union, as long as there are also rules forbidding discrimination based on non membership of a union.
it keeps the dues down, stops unions from forcing people to join and if the union pisses people off too much then they're free to switch to another or leave the union.
there's no need to go to the far opposite "right to work" shit where you lose all rights and can be fired overnight because your employer doesn't like your face.
I live in another part of the world where the right to *not* join a union is protected in law.
As far as I know here it's covered under laws forbidding discrimination based on membership of a union. as it's written in the style of other discrimination laws it goes both ways.

Fitzpatrick [1961] IR 323, for example, to include the right of any citizen not to join associations or unions if they so wish.
personally I've never encountered a union as you describe. probably because if they get too shitty people can just walk away from the union. it also keep dues down since if they go too high people can decide that the advantages (union representative at disiplinary procedures/disputes and support from the union in various situations) aren't worth the money or they decide another union can do it cheaper. (though this might involve the hassel of becoming a shop steward yourself)
The unions I've ever been part of have done little to hurt me and helped now and then when there was negotiation to be done. I've never been threatened or pressured to join a union.
You fail to understand even more completely. Look up "Libertarian socialism" and "Libertarian socialism" before you demonstrate your complete and utter ignorance again.
There is more than one kind of libertarian, there is more than one kind of liberal , there is more than one kind of conservative. People can be both anti-authoritarian and also not want to leave everyone around them to starve to death.
What's your preference then? just so I can make up an absurd strawman or pick the most extreme insane group who follow it and assume that you and everyone who doesn't admit subscribing to every insane policy of that strawman or extremist group is either a lying sociopath or is themselves deluded.
Even to become a half decent programmer the important ones- data structures, algorithms, your first few languages and if you want to be fancy, theory of computation are done by the end of second year.
they seemed to cover more of the project management stuff in third and final year.
Oh but I did, first class with honours, 4 years + 1 year in industry.
Algorithms, data structures, your first couple of programming languages, basic networking, theory of computation the really important stuff was done by the end of second year.
3rd years was a load of fluff except for a decent sized team software project final year was most unusual stuff that's less useful in the workplace but good for general understanding- prolog, Haskell, Computer Architecture, parallel(ok one actually useful one),Embedded Systems, graphics.
I did a full CS degree and graduated so I'm not talking from ignorance when I say that all the most useful stuff was covered in the first half of the course. After that it was mostly refinement and odd stuff like learning prolog.
from my reading of it the last time this was on slashdot the author is quite happy with the arrangement. The publisher is quite happy with the arrangement. And the pentagon is quite happy with the arrangement.
Unless the author or publisher is being threatened in some way this doesn't strike me as like the government trying to shut down a newspaper or silence a reporter. I don't even see what all the fuss is about.
If you've gone and already set up a company and are already quite profitable dropping out *at that point* to put more time and effort into making the business more successful can be fine. You learn most of the useful stuff in the first year or 2 of any CS degree anyway.
Dropping out of college because "sure bill gates did ok" when you don't have any business or anything to build on isn't such a good idea.
And I even told my grandmother, who is extreme right wing Christian. She was happy that I was happy.
And that's where you immunise yourself against blackmail. If on the other hand you for some reason decided you absolutely had to keep it from your family or some such then it would be great for blackmail.
the point is that anything you're hiding from someone is blackmail material. And if you can be blackmailed easily then you're a security risk.
there's nothing special about being gay/bi. It's merely a common thing people hide from their family/others. Someone who's completely out of the closet has nothing to be blackmailed with.
I don't think that's was the context meant.
rather passengers chiding drivers for it.
For your scenario: get a gun. he'll have one anyway, might as well even things up.

best. summary. ever.
Anyone care to bet against this being the approximate result?

Isn't this the basic script for court cases now.
only the reporters just take a sketch book and take notes.
Who said anything about which parts are vital or not?
Should not? dunno.
Might not? absolutely.
You asked and I merely provided a situation where copyright, specifically as it pertains to derivative works can prevent better products from being produced.
You are perfectly free to make a 'better' song, movie, or book than me.
unless of course the better one is merely a massively improved version of your song, movie, or book
I take it then that your state/country has no discrimination laws when it comes to membership/non-menbership of a union then?
here that would be illegal much like discrimination based on race or sex.
