  1. Re:CSS is horrible for table layouts on The Abdication of the HTML Standard · · Score: 1

CSS can be finicky sometimes. I'm working on a personal website (I'm not a web developer by any means), and there are some things that make me go, "Huh?" For whatever reason, the footer for the page overlaps the header, even though it was declared later. Ok, I can deal with that, just set the footer to be at the bottom. bottom: 0px should do that, at least from my understanding (which is admittedly more like that of a novice). What it really does is make it disappear entirely (in all browsers tested). The rest of the layout is fine.

Issues with a footer not sticking at the bottom are apparently something of a common problem. Some of the solutions involve wrapping everything in the body in a div, and then putting a random extraneous div between the rest of the page and the footer. To me, this is sort of a WTF moment.

Can anyone else confirm that those other symbols don't show up, or is it some weird font issue? I see the cent sign and currency symbol in the edit box, but only a space where they should be in the preview.

It can be, depending on the area. My town has FiOS in some areas, even though the whole county is 30-40k people or less. Cable Internet is available outside of the town limits too, in some areas. However, I've lived in some remote areas (thanks, Dad, for the hour long drive to school!) where dialup is the only option. Satellite Internet wasn't even an option.

Having lived all over, it seems to be that if your road isn't even paved, give up broadband. You probably won't get it for a while. If you have to drive for an hour to buy meat (any meat), give it up forever, unless people migrate there en masse. Do your kids a favor and move, too.

There are laws governing its operation, the Postmaster General is appointed by the President, and it enjoys a governmental monopoly on letter mail, except under very special circumstances (and under those circumstances, their competitors are required to pay more than the USPS charges for those letters). IIRC it's a crime to put something in a mailbox if you're not the USPS; that's why you see newspapers putting up their own mailboxes, or mailboxes with a space for a newspaper.
