well, yeah, mail-order places are required by law to give you 30 days, unquestioned, to return anything. they try to make it seem otherwise, or to look like they're doing you a favor, but it's really because it's the law.
why? as you just explained, it means "not able to be set on fire"; more literally it might mean "not able to be a fire". either way it's perfectly fucking clear, and it's easier to say. you're an idiot.
libertarians are all about personal property, until it conflicts with another of their interests (often big business, but not always).
it's a quick way to tell what they really want. there's no really fundamental libertarian reason to not protect personal data as property; it's just that the vogue in pop-libertarianism right now is to strip consumer rights in favor of tech companies. why? well, maybe because pop-libertarians are techies, and they want that shit.
awesome. we've managed to find something even more degenerate than actual sports, or even just playing video games, to pour time and money into.
don't even bother telling me it's actually great because, hey, people are paying for it! some people pay to have other people shit in their mouths. that's totally fine for them if they want to, but if it became an american tradition, i'm not sure you'd be thrilled.
However, it seems that instead of just plonking down alternating stripes of the previous frame (which would be analogous to 1080i), they use a first-order difference (possibly tweaked in some way) of the previous two frames to extrapolate the positions of pixels into the next frame. They then anti-alias this extrapolation by using the previous frame again. So, instead of using the previous frame for the inferior stripes, they blur together the previous frame and their extrapolated frame and use that.
I don't know how this actually looks, but it sounds like an ugly hack to me. It probably looks way closer to 1080i than it does to 1080p. If it actually looked good, then we could double the frames-per-second on everything by just doing linear interpolation/extrapolation. Have you tried doing this? I actually have. It looks like shit, although kinda trippy sometimes.
I know! It's the best kind of debate: having no substantial meaning at all, it can last forever as an excuse for people to insult and trump one another. It's a perfect Slashdot article; we need more of these.
for the user, does it matter who the provider ultimately is? not really. empirically, in major cities, the starbuckses with google-branded wifi give a better service than the others.
is this because the wi-fi is actually worse, or because they are large, comfortable, and have free coffee refills meaning a lot of people are camping out to use the wi-fi?
no one really wants to stay in a McDonald's for any longer than necessary, but a Panera is tolerable.
(walls so thin I was actually considering joining in the nightly party next door where the couple went at it all the time)
this is a little-known feature, actually. you just punch the wall hard enough and you have an instant glory hole. it cuts down on the uncomfortable introductions, and being semi-anonymous, makes rejection more tolerable.
when you're done, you can find a sheaf of wadding in the nightstand, often marked with a cross. you just tear out the pages, crumple them up, and stuff the hole with them. the staff is trained to notice it, and will plaster over it when you check out. it's courteous to examine the wall and just punch out a pre-existing patch if there is one.
"goddam" is a correct regional variant. look it up.
as for the use of language, i eschew capitalization for principled reasons. i won't go through it again because you're not worth it. if you set that aside, however, you'll find the rest impeccable.
i don't consider myself an intellectual giant; how could i, in the face of people like Paul Erdos or Terence Tao, let alone Newton or laPlace?
my opinion is that it is not just media perception; increasingly so recently. i am glad i was born when i was; i'd almost certainly be a ritalin kid these days, at best. it's a terrifying thought. not that it's necessarily wrong either way, but just the arbitrariness of it.
I tentatively agree. I believe in the reality of mental disease, but I also believe in character and challenge. It would be pathological to medicate a problem away, and it would be pathological to expect a human environment to be free of cruelty.
I do not know if there is a solution, or even if my beliefs are mutually consistent. Any more thoughts?
no, the post i was replying to referred exclusively to bullying. there's something called "context". you see, it's more efficient to simply refer back to context than try to evaluate everything as a goddam closure.
i only called you a dumbass because you called me ignorant. i return blow for blow, neither more nor less.
as far as capitalization: you might as well judge someone by the length of their hair. grow up.
i wasn't talking about learning, dumbass. i meant the rigors of "bullying". yeah, it sucks, but it's much worse elsewhere, for any number of reasons that Americans couldn't even begin to imagine.
it's a complicated thing. sometimes, the greater the suffering, the greater the will to live in the moment. maybe the greatest cruelty of bullying is the sheer arbitrariness of it, but maybe that's exactly the kind of thing nerds need to embrace and understand. we live in amazing times.
Maybe. But it ends, is my point. It ends, and one is rewarded relatively richly afterward (relative to one's intrinsic ability, of course, and subject to the vagaries of fortune).
The discrimination against blacks (to whatever extent it is, and for whatever reason) is much more persistent.
Yes, I happily would. The life of the mind is, frankly, a perilous one. If the minimal rigors of (gasp) public education are enough to convince one to put an end to it, then they are probably better off leaving this world. Sorry, but that's just how it is. It could be better, and a lot of it is really silly, and a lot of us are working on fixing that, but my sympathy is limited, having gone through much of the same.
"... and perchance I may think myself so much better than I am, and I know not that. No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main... And therefore never [ask] for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."
i guess i'm kinda stupid. keeping in mind that it's example code, what's wrong with it exactly?
well, yeah, mail-order places are required by law to give you 30 days, unquestioned, to return anything. they try to make it seem otherwise, or to look like they're doing you a favor, but it's really because it's the law.
you can thank the federal government for this.

uh, yeah, most employed slashdot users make more than $9,000 per year.

That's not really a great explanation.

I'm totally baffled about the "non-flammable" thing. I think sex_conker just likes being confused because the alternative is too difficult for him.
I know! It's the best kind of debate: having no substantial meaning at all, it can last forever as an excuse for people to insult and trump one another. It's a perfect Slashdot article; we need more of these.
christ you're an unusually stupid fuck.
anyway, please tell me what's wrong with nonflammable. this ought to be entertaining.
why the hell should a filesync utility be doing that in the first place? we don't have 5MB hard drives any more. there's no reason to be doing this.

sorry about that. :)
to get back on-topic: http://www.lelo.com/index.php?...
security and latency might be poor, but usually adequate for the purpose.

Yeah, that's why he's using a serious first world solution, rather than the old school way of gathering a tribe to sack and torch Sony's headquarters.

you, however, are worthless. don't bother me.
Please elaborate.

yeah, most of us are if you think about it.
