Uhhhh - actually, I read an article about MS scrapping Trident. Whatever they release to browse the web next will use SOMETHING ELSE - but no indication of that SOMETHING ELSE was given. Personally, I suspect they'll shift to Webkit (or Khtml) No, I didn't save a link, I read it days ago. Google, if interested. Or, don't if not interested.
This image is a couple weeks old - I did the same thing months ago, but misplaced the image. http://s217.photobucket.com/albums/cc226/Runaway1956/?action=view¤t=Midori_Acid3.png I can't swear to it, but I think Midori beat them all to the goal of 100 on Acid3.
Ah-ha. You got me. Yes, it is using ia32-libs. I looked at everything installed, but didn't look real hard at all the dependencies, lol. Stuck my foot in my mouth, didn't I? Oh well, stuff happens. Whatever, I am much, much closer to a pure 64 bit machine than I was only 3 months ago. Now that I'm aware of the ia32-libs, I'll have to dig a little deeper.
<quote><p>Theres Flash 64bit version and theres even Moonligh 64bit version for Firefox. Don't know about Java.</p></quote>
Yes, there is a Flash 64 bit for Linux - now. And, there is a 64 bit Sun Java for Linux - now. Neither of them are "final release" yet. And, I waited literally for years for them to come out. Moonlight? I installed that on a previous incarnation of Ubuntu, but never saw that it did much of anything. Maybe I need to visit more silverlight pages? Or, are they all MS-centric, in which case I have no need to visit them?
Everything on my Ubuntu installation is 64 bit. Every single application. Since I'm using Chromium, I guess that I have V8 in 64 bit. Just add the Chromium repository to Apt, then apt-get the source. You don't even have to know how to compile. (I do know how to, sort of, but I'm certainly not proficient - just let your installer do the work!)
Wonder how I would show up? I switch freely between Ubuntu host operating system to the WinXP guest system, and I might have as many as 7 or 8 browsers open between them. I probably screw up stats with every switch, lol
I have a Linux version. Alpha something or other. It kinda works. But, it still needs work. In comparison, I've waited for years -LITERALLY years- for Java and Flash to create 64 bit Linux versions of their softare. It looks like Chrome is moving a lot faster than either of those. ;)

Filter error: Don't use so many caps. It's like YELLING.
Strange. My post didn't trigger that filter. Maybe I talk a little to loudly for nurseries, churches, and hospitals? I don't care, because I don't live in a any of the above.
Somehow, it doesn't seem manly to tote around a bunch of trash, like netbooks. Alright, if it's NECESSARY to tote the damned thing around, buy a plain black netbook. And, DO NOT buy a freaking hoky-ass backpack, fannypack, purse, or whatever the hell. Plain black briefcases are suitable, nothing else. Get yourself a damned black suit, white shirt, and black shoes. See the ideal models here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEIanr5ueGU And, stop having that old heifer wash and style your hair (get a real haircut, instead), end the pedicure and manicure appointments, sell the stupid assed pink Cadilac, stop talking with a lisp, and, finally, STOP LOOKING AT YOUR DAMNED REFLECTION IN EVERY MIRROR AND WINDOW YOU PASS! If these measures don't stop people getting the impression that you're gay, then bite the bullet, and come out of the damned closet. You fudgepacking fruitcake.
There were no GUI's when I started playing with PC's. I had to learn how to do everything from the command line. Then, they created GUI's which I learned to use. Then, they created Windows, thereby making all those cool GUI's obsolete. Then, I finally learned Linux, making Windows obsolete - still with GUI's. Now, they are returning to the command line, except, I have to learn how THEY WANT IT DONE. Balls. I don't need this crap. It's not so much that you can't teach an old dog new tricks - but the damned dog's days are numbered. He isn't going to waste them learning yet a new way of doing stuff.
Scroll down a little bit. Read danpritt's post. No, you DO NOT lose 8%, 12%, or some other number that someone pulls out of their arse. You lose a percent or two. Perhaps the fact that servers serve files and applications faster than most people can use them, and certainly faster than the internet can carry them, is lost on most people. Gaining reliability at the expense of a negligible bit of performance is a win/win situation in my view. (obligatory car analogy) I mean, if you car runs 100 mph, and you make some change to it to improve handling, braking, or low end torque, will you REALLY notice that the top speed is reduced to 98 or 99 mph? Only the cop sitting behind the billboard is going to notice that much difference!! In my (limited) experience with desktop machines, the servers with ECC memory run better AND faster than workstations with non-ECC, by reason of larger and better caches, starting with the L1 and L2 cache on the server's CPU.
OK, or not, it isn't illegal. Extramarital sex isn't "ok", in my book either, but it isn't something for which you will go to prison, unless that sex involves rape or underaged persons, or public indecency. The IP Jihadists need to understand that something can be "wrong", but not "illegal". Something else can be "illegal", but not "wrong". And, everyone needs to realize how hard those jihadists are working to change the law to make commonly accepted practices illegal, voiding all fair use laws, voiding all due process requirements, voiding all privacy laws, even granting themselves powers reserved for the executive branch of government.
Backwoods, Nowhere, like I thought I posted.;) Actually, it's southwest Arkansas. And, remember, it doesn't take a real "outage" to reboot a computer, if the computer doesn't have a UPS. All that is required is a small surge, a two second interruption, sometimes the lights can just flicker the least bit, and the computer will reboot. While this may appear to be unacceptable to city people, I think that a poll of rural people will show that this is common everywhere in the world. People in Texarkana only suffer outages during the most severe storms. People in smaller towns see more than Texarkana, but I live about halfway between Lost and Found.
I should have put the word "perceived" in to my post.;) Maybe a couple of times. Anyway, you make my point. A loss of 1 or 2 percent in memory speed isn't going to impact any gamer's experience.
MrNiceGUI got it right. Before getting a UPS, the computer was down about twice a month, maybe more, due to power outages. Since getting the UPS, MOST power outages don't affect my machine. It seems to average 4 months at a time now, before the power is out long enough to drain the batteries in the UPS. You gotta try one, they're wonderful!
Lose performance to ECC? Uhhhh, how, exactly? Do you even understand how error correction works? I realize that if you are using an underpowered system ie running Windows XP with 128 MB of ram, then ECC might actually slow your machine down even more. Putting enough memory in the machine to ensure that you never run out of memory will incidentally ensure that the ECC doesn't slow you down, either. IMHO, 512 MB is absolute minimum for WinXP, and I really want a gig. People who run a lot of photoshop and multimedia might insist on two to four gig. Nonw of US are going to suffer from ECC "slowdown".
Huh? I hadn't heard that one. But, the kid asked about a Faraday cage just yesterday. I explained it, he experimented. First attempt, his cell phone still worked. I explained that he had to ENCLOSE the phone with aluminum foil, he tried again, and the phone lost signal. Major waste of aluminum foil, though. Mama wasn't very happy with us. To listen to her, it costs as much as gold foil!
No, Vista is not rock solid like Linux. Find me people who have booted Vista, and not shut it down for a year, THEN I'll begin to believe that Vista is solid. My Debian runs for weeks and months at a time, DESPITE the fact that electricity is interrupted frequently. (I live in backwoods nowhere, the power goes out with every little storm) Google around, and see how many people have had Linux up and running for YEARS. Microsoft can't touch that.
"As we all know (unless you've been asleep for years), CO2 is helping to warm our planet"
Instead, most of us have been "conditioned to know that CO2 is destroying the planet". Big difference.
Hygiene? What is that? A new computer language?

Why not start your own? You could call it
Oh wait - I just remembered that the "good old days" weren't really all that good. At least, that's what all the old folk tell me.
