File sharing like this has existed for years, look at hotline. This is about distrubuting copyrighted material. Don't even mention ftp and napster in the same sentence, they are totally different. Napster is meant for one thing, spreading mp3 files around.
Go to www.cdnow.com and you can create your own custom cds to buy. So stop bitching. If you pay $18 for a cd you're getting ripped off, find a new store.
To copy a cd you first need the original. With napster its a few clicks and you have the entire contents of the cd just like that. All it takes is one person to buy a cd, and then 100,000 people can all download its contents. See a problem?
Unfortunately the industry standard adaptec cards are not supported by linux. You are stuck with 3 year old UW scsi hardware. Check what raid cards linux can use, theres only a handful.
Go over to bugtraq and search for "redhat". Count the number of exploits. Search for "FreeBSD" and see how many you get. Its not so much linux as the tons of unchecked GNU software. I did a standard gnome install of redhat 6.2 and it took up over 600 meg! Win2k takes up about the same amount so don't even talk about bloat.
Check out the internal bandwidth of those boxes, 5 year old O2's and Indigo2's still have greater memory bandwidth than the latest pentium motherboards. I still have yet to see a multi processor athlon board. Voodoo5 cards are meant for two things.
1. Getting high FPS on games 2. Getting high benchmark scores
SGI concentrates on realtime rendering and processing. Their video cards have dedicated mpeg/jpeg rendering engines and don't forget the cpus are 64 bit. Given the choice of a 1Ghz pIII or a 200Mhz Onyx, I would take the Onyx in a heartbeat.
Somehow I doubt an advanced civilization is going to use normal RF to communicate. If they have mastered faster than light travel they will surely have methods of communicating still not understood by us.
60 meg is quite conservative for an asf, most movies are split into two 120 meg parts. If you want slightly higher quality theres always raw mpegs which two 600 meg parts. Perfect for burning to a VCD. When you play a good quality asf at fullscreen and sit back like a tv its better than being at the movies.
Its not the point of "no one will watch that" because people obviously do or it wouldn't exist. Its the point of that it does exist and its illegal.
I love the Scour Exchange client. One night I was looking for some songs by a local band called The Clarks, napster had about one song and SX had over a hundred. Another great thing about SX is the collection of music videos. My hard drive is steadily filling:)
No one is holding a gun to their head forcing them to work. What did they do before the nike factory was built? As for the pay, $1 a day is alright when their currency is worth 1/10,000 of ours.

Can't someone rewrite gzip to automatically tar files like EVERY other archiver on the planet? Lets see what all does this: pkzip, arj, rar, jar, the list continues. Get with the times!
I've been running NT4 for over a year now on my dual celeron and its NEVER blue screened because of the OS. When I was doing some overclocking it locked up and when adaptec cd creator killed winoncd it blue screened. Other than that its been perfectly stable. Sure apps crash occasionally and netscape with the usual segfault but its never caused by the OS.

Google doesn't link directly to copyrighted files such as movies or mp3s. Even if there was a link, how long would it stay up?
