    I have a celeron 333 overclocked to 500mhz, playing full screen 30fps mpegs takes 10% of the cpu according to task manager. Playing a mp3 doesn't even register. Strangely enough the MS media player is the best program I've ever used. My old p200 played mpegs and even highly compressed ASF files with no problem. You must be doing something wrong.

    I don't know what you're talking about, once you install netscape and check the "make netscape my default browser" box it stays that way. Yeah its nice to use netscape instead of the evil IE, but I don't want a program that segfaults at least once a day. You can say the same thing about people who think AOL=internet.

    Look at the metal they make space shuttles out of, it has to last through HUGE temperature extremes and take all kinds of abuse. To quote Chris Rock "You think they can't make an El Dorado where the fucking bumper doesn't fall off?" Its designed to only last a certain length of time so you will need to buy another one sooner.

    Yeah it sure helped mozilla. Wheres the browser again? I could care less about alpha and beta releases. Its been two years and no finished product, while IE continues to dominate with over 70% market share.

    well maybe not NFS for linux, but under BSD and commercial unix its fine. A sun box can saturate ethernet with NFS, its quite efficient. Personally I would choose a FreeBSD, you can select packages in more detail and make a cleaner smaller install. Upgrading can be easily done with the make world script.

    Those HOWTO docs didn't exist back in 1991-92 when this was written. Back then a sparc2 with an 8 bit framebuffer was top of the line! In case you missed it there were several references to the 'man' command.

    Its big and horribly slow? How much farther can you get with remote displays? Concentrate more on local display. I want to be able to play 30fps megs at full screen with 8% cpu usage like in windows.

    Its handy for remote desktops and xterms and such but the majority of people are concerned with its speed when used locally. Here my plan:

    The network code is pretty much optimized, its been around for how long now? Concentrate on video card drivers and have it access hardware directly. Have the network part be installed as a module for the people who need it.

    Someone driving a large SUV jumped the curb and plowed into a playground full of kids. Should we ban SUV's because someone misused it? Or how about punishing the person committing the crime.

All you care about is stealing features that other people worked on. How about doing your own R&D and development work instead of relying on someone else?

    Ever hear of those cell phones that use satellites instead of relay towers to communicate? People use them all over europe because you don't need towers built everywhere and the sound quality is much better. You will NEVER see them in the US because the government can't easily tap into your conversation.
