    What percentage of the desktop market does linux take up compared with windows? 1 or 2, maybe even as high as 4. The cost is not justified just for a small fraction of your customers.

    It has to do with the 16 bit drivers used during the boot up, and don't forget when NT came out in 1996 8 gig was pretty big. Even the new pIII boxes that come with 20 gig drives have NT on a 1 gig boot partition, the rest of the disk is formatted after the install.

    There used to be a list floating around usenet that had a ton of emails for government agencies. Like postmaster@fcc.gov president@whitehouse.gov etc etc. About 70% of my spam comes from asia, mostly a unix/NT box someone plugged in and never bothered to change the mail relaying settings. Complaining to someone is impossible. I look up who owns the IP block and forward it to them. A lot of the NT boxes have accounts with the same password and some even have blank administrator passwords. Maybe I should just fix smtp for them ;)

    Novell is novell and windows is windows, but are you running redhat or slackware? X or plain console? Kernel 1.x or 2.0 or 2.2? Linux changes daily so their "test configuration" would be outdated by the time the product made it to stores.

    Well this benchmark done by CNN in january shows the same problem.

    That when linux is subjected to a heavy load it fumbles and the performance drops. The article is pretty in depth for cnn. I hate people talking how 2.4 will fix everything, 2.2 surely didn't. Thats like saying Windows 2005 will be better you'll see! Wait for the testing before opening your mouth, it hurts credibility.

    Can a 13 year old sign a legal document and be held responsible? No. If he is under age his parents or guardian are responsible. Once you hit 18 in the US or 19 in Canada that document will have some merit. Can a minor co-sign your loan? Didn't think so.

    They don't want people running a linux box thats insecure. Scan a resnet subnet and see how many linux boxes you find, how many are running the default install with every service loaded? How many are vulnerable to remote root exploits? Once you get in you can feel free to use their bandwidth for DoS attacks or 0wning something else.

    Besides most people just use windows file sharing instead of ftp.
