Ditto, sort of. I suffer from an overuse problem with the ulnar nerve in my left arm/hand. QWERTY aggravates my condition significantly more the Dvorak. I don't think I type any faster then I did before but my hand feels a lot better.

If your company is willing to spend that much money on the network, a 'cheap' NMS tool is the wrong solution. Too often companies invest in technology only to skimp on the management of that technology. The end result is overall poor performance and dissatisfaction with the technology. I would suggest a real NMS tool such as OpenView.

I would agree however, most people would look at this the other way. A 128 kbps MP3 sounds as good as a lower rate (q=3) OGG file. So, if you are shooting for equivelant quality, you end up with a smaller file. I had ripped OGG files at quality=4 and I felt the sound was equivalent to an MP3 ripped at 160 but the bitrate was around 128 kbps.

In the listening tests I have done, OGG always sounds better especially at the lower bit rates (160 kbps and down). These days, I rip my OGGs at Q=6 for the quality.

I think one of two things happened here. Either 1, you didn't do your job as a consultant and understand the applications and if Linux would support them or 2, you didn't know what you were doing with Linux and that is why the project failed.

In my experiences with consultants (and unfortunately, there have been many), I have often walked away think "I could have done this just as badly for free."

I don't lend much credence to this story either as a Fortune 500 company would not use a single consultant for a Linux migration.

I guess now you know the answer to "How much redundancy can I afford (or not)?" Try two or three connections with multiple routers and BGP-4. Get your own ASN and announce your own networks. Of course, if your running your website on a single IIS server....

I bought this when 1.0 came out and upgraded to 1.1. Under 1.1 it was much improved but the reality is if I need to run MS Office applications under Linux, I'll do it in VMWare. I'm sure the 1.2 is improved and it is certainly cheaper then VMWare but I don't think it could be used effectively in a production environment by normal business users.

  12. Palm causing problems - maybe on Lawsuit Alleges That Palms Damage Motherboards · · Score: 1

I have been an avid Palm user for years (Palm 1000, upgraded to Palm Pro, to Palm V). I moved from Palm to Handspring in March of 2000 because Handspring completed the USB drivers for Win2000 first. Today, I use a Visor Prism. I have never experienced a problem with a motherboard BUT about 6 months ago, my father-in-law who owns a Palm Vx could no longer sync. Palm sent him a new Vx, we tested the serial ports, the computer was working fine but no hot sync. Finally, he called Dell and they replaced the motherboard and all was well in the world again. After reading these postings, especially the ones from the Dell techs, it appears there is a problem with the Palm Vx and motherboards.
