I've been a loyal GNOME user for some time and have been using Ximian/Helix GNOME on Debian. After trying KDE 2.1.1, I've pretty much switched over to KDE. A great web browser, mail client, and other apps that all work. I'm afraid GNOME has a good bit of catching up to do. I tried Eazel's Nautilus. What is this thing supposed to be? A file manager on steroids? It doesn't live up to the hype at all.
Choice is good though...I hope the competition of both GNOME and KDE will help to make both better desktop's. And hopefully with some interoperability between the two.
If this is true, then the Linux market may be a potentially more profitable market than Windows for games. Many that are really wanting Linux to suceed on the desktop are willing to pay more for a Linux version. Also, some of us have bought Linux versions of games that we otherwise wouldn't have bought, simply to support this fledgling market.
So if someone is using Redhat and asks a question
that I feel I can answer I should tell him to
stick it in his ear and call Redhat technical
support?
I don't think so... the Linux community can only
survive by helping each other out. I don't care
which distro they use or whether its a commercial
or non-commercial product, if I can help, I'm
going to. I want to see Linux and free software
succeed.
And for the record, I'm a Debian user who is very
much looking forward to what Progeny can produce
and I hope that they will be very sucessful in
their business endevors and that they will bring
many new users into the Debian fold.
I've been using Mozilla, mostly various nightly builds and now Mozilla 0.8 for months as my main browser. Crashes have been extremely rare. I'm running Debian 2.2. Mozilla 0.8 is pretty quick compared to older builds also.
A friend of mine is beta testing Starband. He was
able to network a system off the main box. There
is no reason why someone couldn't use the Windows
PC as a giant, expensive satellite modem for their
Linux box.
No thanks! I don't want IE or any other Microsoft product on my GNU/Linux system. That's
one reason I'm using it in the first place. Keep
IE on Windows where it belongs (or Mac if you're so inclined.)
I'd like to recommend a book, check out Solomon's Knife by Victor Koman. It's a real eye-opener for people on both sides of the debate. It challenges the views of both the pro-life and pro-choice movements and shows how technology could resolve the abortion issue for all but the most extreme on both sides. It's available by low-cost download in PDF or HTML and also in paperback.
I am very active in the Libertarian Party and know a lot of Libertarians that have come from both the liberal side and the conservative side. You would have a tough sell trying to convince any Libertarian to outlaw abortion, when, as Harry Browne points out when he is asked about abortion, that a war on abortion would be as big a failure as the war on drugs.
Why do you want to twist and pervert what the Libertarian Party stands for? Do you really think that by doing so you are going to convince people to vote for Ralph Nader instead of Harry Browne? Anyone who can read is perfectly capable of going to both the Libertarian Party and Green Party websites and deciding for themselves which party they wish to support.
Exactly! Communism is based upon the idea that
man can be completely unselfish, which just isn't
in the nature of man. It sounds good on paper, but in reality, it doesn't work.
That's why Capitalism is successful... it is built upon the idea that man is selfish and will act to preserve his own self-interests. Which is also why I believe libertarianism is the political system that holds the best hope for mankind. It recognizes that there can't be Utopia built by mankind. If we can't have a perfect society, at least we can have a free society where people can do what they want as long as they don't harm others.
* For those of you who are libertarians, see the next issue of LIBERTY magazine for an article about ideas like these. Ideas about freedom and "reduced government" that are worth campaigning for and that aren't about helping foster an old-fashioned inherited aristocracy in America. When you think about how many interesting things Cheney & co. could be talking about - like ending the Drug War - you'll wind up holding your nose and voting for Gore.
Why in the world would anyone who considers him/herself Libertarian vote for Al Gore?? Al Gore is as much an Authoritarian as G.W. Bush!
Gun ownership in rural areas is usually much
higher than in cities, yet crime committed with
guns in rural areas are far rarer. Plus, rural
people usually know how to use their weapons, not
turn them sideways or spray and pray like the
gang-bangers. It comes down to the values taught
by parents. Heck, if how many or what type guns
you own determined whether you would commit crimes, then I'd have a lot of friends in jail. Most people I know not only own guns, they own weapons like AR-15's, M1 Garands, M1A's, etc and other military weapons. And they are all law abiding citizens who would be the first ones to help you in a time of need.

From what I've read, Microsoft plans for.Net to
be platform independent. Not just for PC's, but
various devices as well. Given the growth of
GNU/Linux, it only makes sense that they would
want to port.Net to it eventually. I'm sure we'll
see an OS X port, a Palm port, and a lot of other
ports.
What does this mean for GNU/Linux? It means
Microsoft sees it as a viable platform, in spite
of some of the past statements Gates and Ballmer
have made.
Logical? That is steal stealing from taxpayers. Let people give what they want to who they want to, no max caps. It's the only logical way to do it in a free society!

Oh no! The US better get there quick before Mars becomes a Red planet! Doh! Too late!

We do not elect Presidents by popular vote in the United States, we elect the President via the Electoral College.
That's why they make all their money off of the ink cartridges!
When are we going to see the XFce Alliance and the Enlightenment Confederacy?

Actually, I am well qualified to talk about software. And, I can do it without obscenities and without posting as an Anonymous Coward! :)

and how do I use that on my Debian box?
...download the GPL'ed version of Internet Explorer 6 for Linux?
Why Harry Browne is running for President.

BTW - are you old enough to vote?
Actually, Harry Browne doesn't want the Federal Government involved in the decision at all. Here is his position on abortion from his website.
Join the GOA instead!

POKE 65495,0 (CoCo 1 & 2)
POKE 65497,0 (CoCo 3)
At least I think that was the right POKES!
