    What part of these SRPMS aren't Open Source?

    If you read here , most of RHAS is Open Source...and everything Red Hat wrote is GPL'ed.

    Mozilla mail does support multiple SMTP servers. Its rather hard to find the option, but it is there.

    See the "Advanced" button under both Account Settings and Outgoing Server (SMTP) under Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings.

    386 with 8MB RAM and 540MB hard drive? Dear Lord, retire that thing to basic firewall duty and get a more modern machine! Heck, last year I gave away a 586/133, 16MB RAM, 1.2GB machine. I'm sure you can find much better than that for free or very cheap!

    Newer laptops use standard SODIMMs for RAM and cheaply upgradeable hard drives. Adding another 128MB of RAM and a 40GB hard drive to my Omnibook 500 wasn't that much more than it would cost to do the same to a desktop. And, I probably did it cheaper than adding just another 64MB would have cost on one of the older laptops with special RAM.

    You realize by saying this you are saying that it will be impossible for anyone but Microsoft to own the corporate desktop? I would think, just as companies changed from Wordperfect and Wordstar before that, moving from Word to something more open, like OpenOffice and its XML file formats would be a very wise move. There are ways around compatibility issues during the migration process. I refuse to believe we are stuck on Microsoft Word for all eternity just because it is the most prevalent format right now!

    Exactly. I could only take about a third of the TNG's shows. DS9 and Voyager had even less worth watching. I think Enterprise is the best thing to happen to Star Trek since the original. In fact, I'd even go as far as saying I like Enterprise better than the original! It is more oriented towards exploring the unknown and less with exploring the holodeck and the moral issue of the week. And, the theme song fits the show, I like it.

    My Omnibook 500 works great under Linux. It has a built in NIC. The only thing not supported is the built-in winmodem and the volume control buttons.

    The page only lists released versions. KDE was not released as a part of the Debian 2.2 release. The only "desktop" included in Debian 2.2 is GNOME.

    Since it appears I don't have much power to do anything else about it. It may come to the point where I don't buy any new electronic gadgets at all. I think this is something that each of us will have to consider in the coming years as the media companies try to mold technologies using the legal system.

    I've began to draw lines in the sand. I will not buy from a website that requires you use Microsoft Passport. I will not buy copy protected CD's, and if I discover one I buy to be copy protected, I will return it. I will not buy an e-book. I will not use a media format that requires a special proprietary player. This isn't a boycott, this is simply a moral decision on my own part. I would have been the most likely person to buy these things, but not under these terms.

    What would be even better is rather than have a card that can be stolen, have an identification number or other identifying mark or device that can't be duplicated made part of your body, say in your head or hand.

    In order to for this to work, you'd have to make it so that no one can buy or sell anything without it! Also, make sure no one is exempt from this, no matter how great or small.

    I running a 1.33GHz Athlon, 64MB GeForce 2 GTS Pro, and a cable modem. It runs great with all details turned up. I haven't checked the fps lately, as long as I find it responsive and playable, it doesn't matter to me.

    Tribes 2 is a fantasic game.. what are you talking about? I've been playing it since Loki released the Linux version. If you don't have decent hardware, yeah, you won't get much performance. But this isn't designed for 1999 hardware.

    Funny thing is, when I checked prices on Dell laptops, I could get a Windows laptop cheaper than a Linux laptop because of promotions!

    Hmm... I've been running an Iwill KK266 motherboard for a while now, with K7 optimizations, without a problem with 2.4.5-ac17 kernel. I've just installed 2.4.7 now.

    As an owner of a Ximian stuffed monkey, I must say it is one of the finest stuffed monkeys money can buy! Also, it fits nicely on top of my monitor, along with several variations of stuffed Tuxes. :-)

    Right. Demand Microsoft to integrate Mozilla into the Windows OS so that it will be on equal footing with IE. Uh-huh. The "turbo" option seems like a good (and only) solution for those who were complaining that it won't start as fast as IE.

    I've noticed that IE's problem handling mod points is a memory related issue. I compared this once when I had a 64MB machine at work and a 128MB machine at home. I didn't get the effect at home.

    In short, you must choose between your freedom as it currently exists, or a drug free society.

    Actually, that's not really the choice either, because regardless of how the drug war is escalated, it still is not going to create a drug free society. The real choice is between having your freedom, or giving up your freedom for the warm and fuzzy feeling that you are "doing something" to stop illegal drugs.

    I'll take my freedom, thank you.
