Sites like Twitter use the term GIF in short videos but are just hosting the thing in video formats like MP4. Since that's not GIF anymore, it matters even less what the creator of the original format wanted it pronounced.
I'm on the same boat -- if I find an application or game that I use multiple times or is actually useful, I tend to buy the full/non-ad-supported version if available. I never felt the need to pirate anything on my Android phone since most apps have an ad-supported version available, or there is a similar app that has a free version. In fact, I don't know anyone IRL that pirates on Android.
Most of the memory issues are related to add-ons, sometimes due to combinations of add-ons. For example, Adblock Plus and Flashblock have a nasty issue (see https://adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10222 ), making Firefox consume loads of memory and eventually crashing. Fortunately it can be easily solved by disabling the little tab from Adblock Plus.
I just installed it (rc1). It seems to be a (slightly) different build from the one you described. Here's what I observed:
JPEG size "estimation": it seems to always show "File size: unknown" now.
The dock positions also seem be working as expected (i.e., the positions are saved), with one exception: if I minimize the left dock (by dragging to the edge), it will restore itself the next time you open GIMP. The right dock seems to be working fine and remains minimized.
It still always opens in windows mode.
I couldn't find a way to hide a single dock either, which is annoying.
I started using Delicious after I hit performance issues with Xmarks. I may have too many bookmarks, but that doesn't justify freezing the browser for several seconds like Xmarks did.

There is a release candidate for 2.8 here (bottom of the page): http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html
Nope it’s not optional and more and more apps will use it in the future

It's really US$200. They say it will be sold for R$599 (Brazilian Reais).
Does anybody have something to share about rendering quality?
It's on Reuters too: http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idUSTRE52P60220090326
But remember that PowerPoint 2000 is not that good either. It seems they have been using that, so Impress still would be an improvement, wouldn't it?
