Well, technically these kind of applications don't violate the TOS because all they do is display google maps in a server window and then they take the locally cached tiles.
There's also an iPhone app for jailbroken devices which uses cached google maps tiles for offline use with the normal maps application. It's really quite handy but not the most practical method (it requires desktop software to download the tiles and to create a database which must then be uploaded through ssh to the iPhone)

Once you're familiar with the concepts and philosophy of GWT, you'll be able to decide if you want to use a framework that builds upon it (there are tons of them and some are really crappy, like ext-gwt)
I'm a frequent contributor in the user forums and I find that GWT beginners only get more confused when they try to use a framework on top of GWT without knowing the basics.

I know of several dells (m1330 and m1550) that couldn't stay connected to wifi no matter what we did. They were on vista.
We tested ubuntu on them and the wifi worked flawlessly, but the owners were reluctant to switch. We then tested windows 7 and wireless problems went away (along with most of the vista crappiness) so they're now on windows 7. I just hope for them the upgrade price isn't too steep.

A couple of months ago there was this article at arstechnica stating that the biggest chunk of ISP expenses were used to get content (tv channels) from the "content industry".
Now I'm not saying this is true for ALL ISPs, but as almost every ISP that I know of is offering the so-called triple-play, I'd think that what is revealed in the article still applies to a vast majority of them.
I couldn't find any references to this cult in french so I'm not sure they're here. On the other hand, there are other "something yoga" cults that are explicitly forbidden[french warning]

Do you know how long does it take to define a profile through the standard specification process ? Joda-time (the replacement for those ugly Calendar and Date apis) has been meant to get included in Java since the beginning of 1.5 but here we are some years later at 1.6.something and still no sign of it.
Maybe google will go through the standard process for defining the "Java Cloud Edition" (I don't doubt it) but the thing must be out for developers to play with so clearly there's nothing monopolist here (the thing is in experimental state after all)

No, you got it all wrong. The phone and the laptop are connected aver wifi (adhoc network). Then I create a sock proxy on my iphone and setup firefox to go through that proxy. The data is effectively transferred over 3G or EDGE.
I do it over wifi with my jailbroken iPhone and my carrier (Orange France) has not noticed (or maybe I don't do it often enough for them to care about it).
Either way, I'm sure there are ways to work around the tethering fee.

Since the user interface is implemented with GWT it will work on almost any browser (yes that includes IE6)
Just download the .tar.gz fromn mozilla's site, uncompress it and launch it. Nothing to install.
