A while back a vendor (tiger direct I think) had a 850 MHz cyrix chip soldered on a motherboard. Free after rebate. I added a 256 mb kingston chip which was free after rebate. I bought a $29 delivered case/ps off of ebay. No floppy and I initially plugged in an IDE cdrom drive to load knoppix. Had it been preloaded I wouldn't have needed to. So really the only thing left is the cost of a hd. I think I've seen decent hard drives for $60 after rebate. (I used an old drive)
I think it can be done. This machine isn't fast though.
I was under the impression that Windows XP Home addition did not have the security that the people who replied to my original topic have stated. My mistake and I apologize to Bill Gates and his fan boy that called me a "jackass."
I'm not trying to troll here but I think this is a perfect example of how linux has a huge advantage over windows being that it's truly account oriented. Windows is moving that direction but files aren't protected between users in any way.
Google Desktop is doing exactly what it's programmed to do. The insecurity is in the way Windows has no seperation between users.
If there was a Google desktop for linux it would only be indexing the logged in users information and it would be readable/seachable only by that user (and root of course).
I understand the concern and I would say that google desktop doesn't belong on public terminals. I mean is there any situation where public terminals should have files to be searched on them anyway?
My car exhaust would probably trigger any sort of acoustic sensor. It's not that loud but generally stereos aren't either, you're just annoyed at the fact that you can hear it with the cars windows rolled up, etc. whereas you would probably expect to hear the sound of exhaust.
"Is there a tool that we could push out to all the PCs to basically do what anti-virus programs do and block these programs from running and clean them from the computer?"
The nazi thing was a joke. I thought it went well with your fascist statement.
The average person does bring in several times what they're making. There's other overhead besides their salary such as health insurance and unemployment insurance, etc. I wouldn't hire anyone I didn't feel was bringing in a minimum of twice what I'm paying them and I wouldn't expect to be hired by anyone unless I could do the same.
I don't know if you're 16 years old and you've never had a real job or if you're 40 and you can't find a job because you have no people skills but that's the way things work.
I'm done discussing this. If you'd like to post again you can have the last word.
News flash I'm running my own company and it's a company not a charity. I don't expect $700k out of a $70k developer but I do expect them to pay for more than what I'm paying them. Otherwise I'd be back to charity.
I know I'm going to get flamed for this post, but my opinion is that this is all liberal propaganda.
There are plenty of jobs here and there are plenty of workers. I think if anything we're seeing the weak developers wiped out.
I interview a lot of people and it surprises me how many low skilled developers come in asking for $70,000. I don't care if you have 3 years of experience you don't ask for that much money unless you're going to be good enough to provide the company with enough output to bring in several times that much. There have even been some where I would have offered a job for half that maybe but usually if their head is so high in the sky I don't bother.
About 2 years ago I searched high and low for everything google had on me and went through a lot of trouble to get it all removed from the web and from google's cache. They weren't that bad (mostly arguements on message forums) but the things I did in high school don't reflect me now. Now if you search for me it's all generic information that I consider public.
netscape page doesn't render in firefox?

Seems like it can handle just about everything but maybe I'm not thinking outside the box. The biggest limitation is my lack of knowledge about how to do the things I want to do.
I'm not trying to troll here but I haven't seen one post saying how anyone has been affected. If there is one can someone point me to it?
I personally think it's scary but I do think it's not completely worthless. With modification it could be beneficial to all outstanding citizens.
All those bazillions of transactions must waste a significant amount of bandwidth.
For the most part the compaq smartarray line of cards are backwards compatible and you can upgrade or downgrade the cards without changing anything.
I have some limited first hand experience with this but I have only done it a few times so maybe someone else can tell of their experiences.
Doesn't the media do a good enough job of telling us how to think?

What was the previous press release, just a trick to get the stock to jump?
You really put me in my place. Way to post anonymously.

Can someone please tell me why I was modded flamebait? I thought I asked a valid question?

How cheaply can a home system be completed?
I'm very interested but in the past it didn't seem like it was cost effective.
A poor joke at that..
"Is there a tool that we could push out to all the PCs to basically do what anti-virus programs do and block these programs from running and clean them from the computer?"
Last I heard it's called linux.

hahaha.
So you're saying you'd hire someone is LESS profitable than the amount you're paying them?
So you hire them for $70k and they only bring in $50k... Ouch. You're going out of business.
So yes, I'm not going to hire a crappy person that isn't worth the amount.
SCREW YOU! NAZI MORON!

I truly have a name that has never been used in the history of the world. So when you search for my name you find me and only me.

Is it bad that the netscape page:m ber=1 doesn't render correctly in the latest firefox?

I can't even begin to fathom that many lines of sql.
How would you even begin to troubleshoot something like that? I'd think you'd have to start breaking it into smaller sections.
Seems like it can handle just about everything but maybe I'm not thinking outside the box. The biggest limitation is my lack of knowledge about how to do the things I want to do.
Also in real life if one idiot tries to mess up the game by running off with the football you can catch him and beat him to a pulp.
In online games unless you're playing with friends it only takes one person to mess up the whole game causing endless frustration.
