I cant be bothered to check too deeply into my reasoning(is that the slashdot effect?). But, I would guess that the schools are protecting themselves from lawsuits so that if little johnny/janey has a heart attack while doing gym the school doesn;t get sued for millions as it would obviously just have to be their fault. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4176/is_20071214/ai_n21165053/

I am guessing that there just wasn't any profit in it.

The most ridiculous part about US 'consumers' (they sure aren't citizens) and the health care question is the fact that they aren't demanding that their health is taken care of due to the amazing amount of taxes they pay. I am in Australia and as far as I am concerned our medicare system works brilliantly. If you want private coverage and/or private hospital with cable TV and a private room then you pay for it. Although for a private room in Australia with Cable TV you pay bugger all compared with a US citizen who would pay a lot more for a much lower level of service. I do agree with the US consumers though as the proposed reforms for their system do nothing but guarantee greater profits to a seriously broken and predatory health system. To do it right in the US they would have to dismantle the stupid system they have now and as they are not citizens just consumers it will NEVER happen.

In Adelaide, Australia they give out free personality and IQ tests. I was with a friend and we did the IQ test. I know what my IQ is and I could take an educated guess as to what my friends is approximately. After the test we turned out to both have an IQ of 127. My IQ is quite different to that figure (damn I can barely do up my shoelaces) and my friend has problems spelling words like Kat and remembering his own name. They then offerred us full time employment within the church where we would have full room and board and a disposable income after all our needs where met of $7 a week. Unfortunately, I already had a job otherwise I would have jumped at the opportunity.
