It's crap like this that causes writers to dumb down and overly caveat their comments. By the time all the "of courses" are included all of the spontaneity and edge are washed out or removed. So here it is... Of course child porn is illegal and he should go to jail for a long time for it regardless of the fact that he is an idiot for taking it to geekos without removing the porn.
There is one in every crowd. You're the one today.
He should be convicted simply for being stupid enough to leave child porn on his computer while its in the possesion of anyone else, especially geeksquad types. What a moron.
As an IT Director my primary concern it the productivity and uptime of my clients. Network based software is IMHO not reliable enough to rely on. Any number of connectivity issues could cause a complete loss of use. With certain applications this is not an option. While developers could mitigate these problems (a small footprint executable that allows me to print something even when the host application is down, for example) I would have a hard time recommending migrating to a primarily web-based office/productivity suite. Too many things out of my control for my comfort. Google isn't who the CEO is going to come to when his secretary can't produce something he needs RIGHT NOW.
You're right. You have no control over what things make you look bad in the eyes of others. I think you should mount a worldwide campaign to raise awareness of this issue in the hopes of changing a core aspect of human nature so that you don't have to be accountable to anyone for any action that you might not be ashamed of but which others think negatively. There is 'should be' and 'is'. Your 'should be' will never be what 'is'.
To which everyone should remember this adage: If you don't want stuff you would be ashamed of displayed for everyone to know, don't do stuff that you would be ashamed of. At the very least don't do stuff you would be ashamed of with people who have no sense of discretion. This isn't a difficult concept.
I thought I was the only Firefly fan who didn't care for the movie. The series had a depth and breadth of character. It was balanced. The action, comedy, romance, drama were set well against one another. I sensed the downfall of the show (actually, I already knew it was canceled so I should say that I sensed what would have been the downfall of the show) when the guys with blue hands were killing people with a mysterious sonic doohickey. It reminded me of X-Files where best shows were the ones independent of the alien anthology and the anthology became a cumbersome dinosaur waiting to die.
Children are children. As a parent I have the right and responsibility to know what they are doing and where they are at any time I want to until they are of legal age. In small town America parents used to depend on the community to know what their children were doing. If I want to use technology to know where my children are then that is my perogative. Just because many parents do not care of pay attention to what their children are doing doesnt make it wrong for those who do care.
Everyone I know who works for SAS or is in anyway associated with SAS (which is quite a few since I live in the city where SAS is headquartered) pronounce it Sass.
With the new push in UTICA and other licensing laws how much would this really help. Sure we would have the source code, but what could we legally do with it.

I hope he runs. It will drain the pool of idiot voters.
