    Actually you have it almost completely backwards.

    A program like "Hello World" with be much, much faster in C than any of the Java derivatives like C#. A language that has a runtime requiring an expensive initial malloc for it's generational GC and a lot of fancy class/assembly loading will be an order of magnitude slower.

    However a long running application is where the language's JIT features really shine, as they're able to optimize and reoptimize whereas a statically compiled language cannot. This is where you hear about "java faster than C++" simply because Java is dynamically compiled and C++ is statically compiled. C# has similar abilities.

    The goal isn't to permanently lock down the media forever. It's to make it hard to copy during the initial high sales period. Sometimes it succeeds, sometimes it doesn't.

    But flatly saying it "doesn't work" is misinformed, not insightful.

    How so? Anyone who's used both know .NET is a knock off of Java (not to say Java is entirely original itself, but it's clearly .NET's main inspiration). I understand your confusion though. For non developer types, Microsoft has a done a great job making it unclear what .NET was/is.

    It's like saying a Chevy is better than a one off secret uber car from the guy who designed the Hindenburg.
