3. often used to describe something stupid or unfortunate. originating from homophobia. quite preferable among many teenage males in order to buff up their "masculinity"
The part that says, "originating from homophobia" I think is a bit of stretch, though the first part is true.
Though these days I don't use the expression. I usually say, "that's pretty lame..."
Who cares what Windows does because it is beside the fact. The fact is that the configured operating system was not on the machine and that Linux *could* cause a problem.
This is what the poster should have done in the first place. I have noticed the same warranty issues and on the new computers I have even seen how they have added "markers" to indicate whether or not you altered the computer.
Though even suing he is unlikely to get any money. The warranty is based on the configuration that was sold, and that includes operating system.
> Another is that if we leave French secret satellites off the list, then if someone spots a satellite not on the list, they won't know whether it's U.S. or French.
Your attitude is what brought America into WW2. America did not go gungho into WW2. It took America a LONG time... But when it did, it did with a mission and attitude! That is why people keep saying, "oh in WW2 we did such and such..."
Firefox, Thunderbird, TortiseSVN are anything but Bloat-Free.
In the past six months to a year FireFox, Thunderbird regularly take up 130 MB by themselves. I once had Thunderbird manage RSS feeds.... That was a mistake! And don't even ask me about how SLOW Firefox has gotten with larger HTML pages.
TortiseSVN has this annoying habit that it has to cache everything and if you have any SVN projects of any size it takes ages to do anything.
What annoys me about these applications is that they take the attitude, "oh lets just load it into RAM after all everybody has enough." I get annoyed because I run Virtual Machines and these apps keep slowing everything down.
Oddly enough I was talking to some Microsoft folks yesterday and we talked about the old days and the new days. And the Microsoft of 1995 is not the Microsoft of 2007. Yes they still do certain things, but many things have changed. Microsoft is different company these days, and I think it is because they had their hands slapped.
For those that say, nothing has changed, well then you don't remember what Microsoft was like in 1994! Back then Microsoft was rabid and not a company you wanted in your cross-sights. Now most people don't care about having Microsoft in their cross-sights.
I have dyslexia and Libertarian is a word I have oodles of problems with. The combination is very difficult for me.
Regarding run on sentences and the likes. Well, that has the heat of the moment. I just get annoyed about this Libertarian discussion when in fact most people are Liberals. The problem with the word liberal is that it is a bad word in America, and Libertarian is better since after all the Founding Fathers were such.
I would argue that you like to think that you are Libertarian, but I wonder:
1) You want some gun control, why? What is the real problem here?
2) You want control of monopoly due to your consideration that capitalism failed. How are you going to determine that capitalism failed? What measurement are you going to use? Will it agree with mine?
3) Your religion argument is flawed. Public schools should be allowed to teach Christian ideology, just like it should be able to teach Islam, and Muslim. Thomas Jefferson was deeply religious, he just did not want his religion being pressed on others or vice versa. What people do not understand about separation of church and state is that it is about a test. There should be no test of religion to determine an action by the government.
4) Your quiz question regarding corporation I would argue is that yes the corporation only has to provide profit to a shareholder. After all the purpose of a corporation is? If developing environmentally friendlier products drives more shareholder value then so be it.
I could go on, but my argument is confirmed most people would like to believe they are libertarian. A libertarian says "One who advocates maximizing individual rights and minimizing the role of the state." When you say that you believe in some gun control, and some monopoly control, etc you are right there maximizing the role of the state. What you are doing is maximizing the role of the state because it is about issues that you care about. So what happens if I said, "ohh let's make sure that the government does this as well."
When I hear people like Bill Maher profess that they are libertarians I shutter. I even doubt that most slashdot readers understand the term.
Check out www.politicalcompass.org and do the quiz and see what your leanings really are.
Remember a libertarian would not harp on Microsoft, would not have guns laws restricting the use of bazookas, and would not restrict people from following creationism. Libertarian means to live and let live, and most importantly it means for people to be idiots!
So I think I doubt that most people are libertarians....
The conclusion that you assume is that by making it easier people will become more interested. The problem in science is that it is HARD TO TEACH... I remember when I was a teenager there were good science teachers and REALLY bad science teachers. And when you need to teach abstract concepts like "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction" you better be a good teacher since it is non-intuitive.
Let me illustrate. If you have an algebraic equation A + B where a = 2 and B = 3 then the answer is? 5! You don't need a great teacher for algebra because you can deduce.
Now take the example of a bucket with water and you swinging it around your head. The physics says that there is a force sending the water towards you, even though you are swinging the heck out of it. That is completely non-intuitive and requires understand the concepts of action and reaction. Thus to fully grasp it you need to be able to teach well. If you don't the student is just as puzzled before.
In Ontario radar detectors are illegal since they are a device used to sense radar. Kaza is a known program used to share programs, whether those files be legal or illegal.
So now say I turn the device on. At that point it is illegal. If on the other hand the device is in an envelope or box that is sealed then the device is not illegal.
I am thinking the judge is using the same logical here to whether or not deem legal or illegal.
I looked through the comments and sliced and diced the data... And I think the most essential point was being missed.
How would you refocus Linux? Refocus Linux to what people would pay for. I am not kidding in this. An individual told me that Open Source is nice and great, but what is really nice and great is developing something that you can make money at. Having people part with their money means something and thus until your software is able to do that it is not worth anything.
So I think my answer would be to your question, "Refocus one of the BSD's to something that people would be willing to pay for." Who knows what that might be. I would not even refocus Linux, but would focus on PCBSD, or one of the other BSD's. Less hassle and pains from a crowd perspective. The Linux crowd has reached a critical mass of mess where I fear nothing is going to get going further...
Think of it as follows. If you truly had the money focus on a BSD and talk to companies and say, "Hey here is a new market and you can keep your drivers binary. And guess what I have X $$$ to focus on marketing this software."
>> But on the stand, Mary Winkler described a hellish 10-year marriage during which, she said, her husband struck her, screamed at her, criticized her and blamed her when things went wrong. She said he made her watch pornography and wear "slutty" costumes for sex, and that he forced her to submit to sex acts that made her uncomfortable.
I think more does not need to be said. This was a case of abuse and mental problems.
Let's see you are serving out a sentence, and because you happen to not like a certain part of the decision you are going to prove the system wrong? You are going to show how smart you are and run Linux in a VMWare session.
Yeah that's REALLY SMART, and shows what is wrong with society! They guy is SERVING a sentence and that means you do what the man says! Jail and sentences are a dictatorship not a democracy! If after the sentence you want to change things, so be it, get active and change things. But until then suggestions not welcome!
I think this is a bit of apples and oranges comparison.
I would sooner say, "This guy is a motorcycle driver and the monitoring device is only available for cars." So his choice is to not drive for 5 months or get himself a car.
He just did not upload illegally, but he uploaded before the movie was even in the theaters. That is going to annoy many people. So while 5 months and 5 months is a pain it is definitely less than what a murderer would serve.
I KNOW EXACTLY how you feel. I live in Switzerland, and while Switzerland is not quite as good as Japan it is pretty good. And you know I HAPPEN TO LIKE it... It's a nice feeling knowing that most likely you are not going to be robbed, knocked on the head and can live your life as it should be.
Yeah until a lawyer sends you to jail. Then we will know who will do the f***king, no? After all most geeks who seem to "own" the routers are a bit fair skinned...
I mean why stop at grade nine. Heck let's make them decide a major in Grade 6. Wait, that might be to late, how about Grade 1? No, wait the competition might catch on and decide earlier.
Heck why wait until you have kids. Why not decide now for my great great great grand kids. We could buy them books, and computers and get the great great great grand kids ready to meet the competition!!!!
On serious note, while I can see why you want to do this, it is not really the appropriate answer. I think if some kids want to choose paths let them, but if kids are not able to choose then let them be free souls. I know in Germany where you have to choose at such an early age what ends up happening is a multi-class society. Check the stats on professions, etc. The chances of a kid who's dad is a plumber becoming a scientist is about nil in Germany. The OECD has even critiqued Germany for not breaking down the barriers. The politicians have created a society where non-Germans remain "dumb" and un-educated while upper class Germans remain in charge of the society...
Hmmm, politicians, control, let me scratch that last opinion (as the evil plan dawns onto me)...;)
With the risk of showing my age, when you said "that's pretty gay" its something from "the bad hair day" 80's.

Nice strategy....
If you are going to slander, then be accurate. Microsoft offered him a job, but Miguel turned it down! I know, I know the people who tried to get him.
I used to be very skeptical of Miguel, but I am tempted to believe he has it right...
Dude I wish I had mod points...
Your attitude is what brought America into WW2. America did not go gungho into WW2. It took America a LONG time... But when it did, it did with a mission and attitude! That is why people keep saying, "oh in WW2 we did such and such..."
The problem is that the US regularly writes about the French secret satellites, and the French want that to stop.
Thus the French are saying, "if you don't keep ours secret, then we will not keep yours secret." A sort of quid pro quo negotiation tactic.
Not bloatware?? Huh? News to me...
Firefox, Thunderbird, TortiseSVN are anything but Bloat-Free.
