    Intel's Dirty Secret is a PC Computing magazine article title in the new September1999 issue, page14. The article points out that Intel messed up while trying to beat Cyrix and AMD on the low end, Intel ended up beating itself! According to the article, the price/preformance of a Celeron chip is 1.5 times the power per dollar as a PII and 3.5 times the power per dollar as a PIII. I'm not a hacker, just a computer user. I'd be interested in slashdot comments on this article.

    No industry, the auto industry or any other industry has ever made a profit. Individuals and companies, yes. The whole point of this so called profitability is cash flow and you're dip into it. The overall cost of business, from environment to bad investments, it's relationship to Incorporation aka CorpGovLLC is totally constructed to enslave workers, siphon off as much money you can pocket to yourself and your gang (stockholders), which help you control your portion of the street. All while the real cost of oil spills, S&L bailouts and tobacco lawyering deals is for the profit of the barons. CorpGovLLC is "private profit, public risk". We, the public, built the highway system GM uses to drive it's business. Right here at home, the Internet was built with public funds, now CorpGovLLC thinks it's time for you to hand it over. All highways are built, not so we can get to town meeting halls, rather, town shopping malls. Try it any other way and you'll find military check points on your FREEway. Go out, stay in, whatever! Just buy something dagnabit!

    Yeah, CorpGovLLC are hasseling us at the ticket booth so we'll stay home, no mass get togethers. Digital home theater will allow them to track your every movement. The last thing they want today is for people to get together somewhere, unplugged and actually starting to talk to one another out of earshot of those in control. Once Hollywood starts beaming first run movies into your cave, they'll collect bit after bit of information on you. All while making more money than ever before. Modulate the signal, get jamming.

    I bought a Presario 5630. And yes it is my fault. The sleep mode locks up the computer. After hours of downloading what Compaq calls softpaqs, one softpaq solves a problem and another problem crops up. Could i charge them for the time i've spent trying to get this 5630 to work? Compaq was the first PC i owned, a Presario 954, i thought i was upgrading... The moral of this story, don't even pay compaq shipping.

We must continue to define in terms of the movement and the ability of the products and services the movement produces to work of, for and by all computer users of the digital community. It is the community spirit that Microsoft can never develope. Microsoft is for Microsoft, the community is just it's profit base. Microsoft doesn't see the marketplace as part of it's corporate structure. We consumers are on the outside looking in.

    While individuals put money in their pocket, overall every industry loses money. It's the nature of the beast, that is, CorpGov LLC standard "Private profits, Public risks". The military (funded by you and me) issued in the radio, television, internet, and every other product. So we (the peons) fund the research while those on top reap the benefits. Hell, the government was gonna give AT&T the Internet but the giant CorpGov LLC couldn't see the forest for the trees.     As one member of the 60s era, i must say, dream on. Every keystroke you make, every surf that you take, they are watching you. How could CorpGovLLC keep tabs on everyone? Offer the system for Free, allow a time frame of total willpower to be issued by those online, then, when most people are online, start knocking on doors. So why am i here in it? I gave up on privacy years ago. I speak my thoughts in the real world and therefore, i would never be hard to find. When they come for you, remember, we had a good time! We stood for something. Of course if the above is wrong, no harm done, if it's true, you're prepared, if it's not true, a least you were keeping your options open. ~g.

    Finally a version of Pirate Radio for the masses. Will this keep the FCC at bay? All this free media and free speech, what's a government to do? I do business ops and i just got email on a private Internet opportunity. One of the sales pitches for this private internet opportunity is they will not allow porn, sites that deal with bomb making, etc etc. A new faster Internet where business will be safe. I wonder though, if the Internet had started out private, would it be as big as it is today. I understand the government offered Internet to AT&T but they didn't see the vision and turned it down. Is this an Urban myth? So if freeRadio comes to the masses, will this be the excuse the government needs to control Internet? Just wondering, g.

    There's a war going on...now. It's a war on anyone who thinks out of the box of newspeak. True outsiders don't care about being outsiders!!! I loved the fact that i was an outsider and still am. When in school i could have been kool...all i had to do is...Conform! Now in my factorywork, i'm still the outsider and made fun of..."Oh there's the internet freak" "You use email as your main communication tool?" On talking open source and gift economy to a fellow worker, being overheard by another fellow worker, who wasn't even part of the conversation, as i left to begin my workday, the guy who was listening in called out,"see ya trenchcoat". 2,000 students packed into a sardine can called a school, what was the class size? No excuses really, just facts that might point somewhere besides a persons dress or political views. The Christian Church seems to function in our society with it's bloody hands. The greatest secret of world war two is that Hitler was a Christian. Then there's the Jews finding the promise land occupied, what they do? Sorta like we whites did to the American Indian, ethnic cleanings anyone? Let the first nation, religious or political viewpoint without blood on their hands, please step forward and throw stones. This doesn't justify anything, but when you wonder where the violence comes from, stop looking at trenchcoats and start looking at the societies we've been building, like forever. Need for change? Yeah. More rules, more control by the very same people who have brought us to where we are now. Do you trust Bill Clinton? Then let the games continue. ~g.

Alan Turing would rather see you with a personal computer and logging onto the Internet than any money going to a sculpture. He'd want us to spend the money on faster access, more bandwidth and a better OS. Alan Turing and all outsiders love to see their name mentioned on Internet sites, than a sculpture. Keep Liberty alive through your actions of freedom, if you want another monument besides the Digital Revolution, perhaps your trying to reach the wrong people.     If we talked about our ideas while everyone listened and tried to understand our point of view then agreed to disagree. Agreed we all were on this planet and that since we were all here together, that must be the way it is to be. Together no matter how different we are. If nothing else, to serve as a bad example. Can we embrace non-violence, we can with those we agree with, that's easy. It's been said it's easy to love your birth child, but aren't we all each others brothers and sisters? Isn't that what this threading is? Our reaching out to have our say on an issue. But then, we go out into "the world" and suddenly we're not allowed to speak our voice. We're outside again. I got married and had a daughter. Family. People who are suppose to listen to what you have to say. Can't we all realize we're here together: Family. Can't we allow the youngest child to pick the activity for the family in rotation of participation? Sometimes, isn't the child right and not the parent (as a parent i can tell you truthfully, yes)? The world changes, yet so much stays the same. Can we not see that the glowing ball of light filling all space/time, is coming from within? Isn't it time we stop committing "random acts of blindness"? -g.

    I too was on the bottom rung of high school. i be there now, an outsider, but that was always my choice. I saw what being popular was all about. "Beware the lure of fashionism". I never wanted to join them, earn their respect or be near them. They are alone in a crowd, each of them doing whatever keeps them popular. Short hair, long hair, bell bottoms, nike, the Gap. The herd moves on. Co-op Life cause freedom is anarchy and capitalism can't give you what it's told you you want, if you dare to do more than "think different" if you dare to "think for yourself".     What violent games/movies etc etc do is they lower the treshold of resistance to violence so we will accept the bombing of Kosovo. The side effect is that it lowers all tresholds to violence and CorpGov LLC is willing to let its citizens kill other citizens because the alternative would be that citizens would question all violence. Example: A policeman pulls you over for speeding. Upon approaching your car, the officer notices a gun on the passenger seat. What will the officer do? Why he'll pull his gun on you!!!!!! How dare you have a gun!!!!!! This is the typical "Do as i say, not a i do" authority figure response!!! Before one of the lawabidingcitizenswhobelievesonlyguiltypeoplegetar rested replies in agust... might i pause to say, "If only criminals had guns, wouldn't they be easy to identify in a lineup?" -g.

    I agree with you itp. It is also clear that society in high school and general society pick on people. Advertising and CorpGov LLC want people to feel worthless inside so they will seek out CorpGov LLC entertainment and products. These young lads must have felt worthless because they were not popular, not liked. Instead of embracing themselves and their differences, instead of not wanting jerks to like them, they wanted to be liked by crippled people. It's sad, victims all around! The media crys, yet the other top story of the day is our bombing...to solve a problem. So how can one form of violence be chosen over another? Clinton wants to solve a problem so he drops bombs, the two boys wanted to solve a problem so they too drop bombs. Video games!? Movies!? Goth!? Try the real world with our, peace is war, warriers are peacekeepers and CIA/NSA/ATF etc etc -g.

    Are you promoting this "only the little people lie and we should only trust CorpGov LLC" or are you lamenting the fact? Pesonally i like to read post by ordinary people who then list the url for an interesting site. I only use search engines and portals when i'm doing my own research. Another way to find sites you like is to subscribe to online newsletters in the subjects you are interested in be they hobby or work or other. I consider slashdot as one of those places on the web where intelligent people are exchanging intelligent information and urls.I like for one. I'm not really sure the big money portals really care about our needs, we are consumers to them, they use "content" merely as a identifier of what advertiser would be interested in selling us. Sometimes i just want to read and learn without wondering if i'm gonna receive an ad because i happened to look a certain webpage. Or those banners that pop up with Amazon.com telling you to go to their site for more information about (fill in your search subject). Do they believe that using technology that puts my name on a web page or email is the kind of personalization the net needs to offer? Is this the future of the web?

Increasingly people reject the free flow of information...insisting on moderaters to tell us what is worthy of our time. We want to be told what to be told what to be. Rather than filter our own by not reading posts or article written by people we don't want to read we put in place people to moderate the chatter. It's always for our own good, see. Why should you have bear the burdon of deciding what to read?

    Once you hire people, there's insurance, a building to house them (factory), cost of overhead (such as lighting, etc). It's just much more profitable to outsource it out. A virtual CorpGov LLC with no inventory, buildings, employees and nothing but profit$.
    It could work out the same for independent consultants too. No CorpGov LLC commute, no office politics, no staying 12 hours when you got done with the project in 8hrs. An actual life just might be yours, community, family and friends! Oh my.
