If you would rather not read what I post feel free to ignore it in the future. Otherwise get some balls, stop posting as AC's when you feel you need to criticise, (you bunch of whining fucking freaks) and blow yourselves.

This is the equivalent of saying "I have a patent for the process of putting mail in a mailbox, therefore the USPS is violating my patent."

Perhaps one form of a "posting" mechanism could be patented, but not the simple action itself. If that's the case, every website that takes email via forms, including the Govt ones, are in violation of that patent.

Do you really think it would be a better world when Big Brother government is the only entity allowed unrestricted use of databases of personal information? Besides, haven't we already seen enough articles here about how datamining isn't paying off as much as everybody claims it is? Why not just wait until everybody realizes that we don't pay attention to targeted e-mail ads?

and by the way, very good point.

The posts that I have made that earned 3, 4, or 5 were always geared to contribute diretly to the discussion, and I think that in the time I've been on slashdot I've been moderated down to zero very few times.

Overall I think my posts have had much to contribute, at least much more than the obnoxious AC's who all scurry to put up a "FIRST POST!"

So I guess what I'm saying, at the risk of losing a little karma, is blow it out your ass.

For now MP3's are a great tech both for consumer and industry. They're a good way to build buzz, expose your music to fans who wouldn't otherwise hear it, etc...

The main reason for this is because it is too tedious to download an MP3, decode it, and burn it to a disk. However, 2 years from now when someone builds a program that does this automatically, and the bandwith/hardware can do it in about 5 seconds, there won't be any reason to visit the local CD store.

for now it's a great tech, in two years, the Record compnanies will probably have found a way to encrypt it anyway.

    3. Fair use is true. If you're using a logo, or something created by an organization to make fun of them, you're in the clear. (as done on my microsoft and aicn parodies) however, that movie wasn't making fun of the photo. It was making fun of the situation. If the material had been used to parody the photographer directly, or the AP directly, OK, bu that wasn't the ends of the means.

The reason for the parody was to make fun of the Elian situation. Therefore they were using someone else's work to make fun of a 3rd party. They should have paid for the photo.

Now one story I've heard said that the guys who did it never expected it to be so widely distributed. In that case, I don't blame them as much, but think they should have been more careful.

This makes me just as irate as those thousands of sites who do nothing but scan and publish syndicated cartoons with out permission of the artist. What a load of crap.
