  2. Globalization and Capitalism for you not them on IBM Stops Disclosing US Headcount Data · · Score: 3, Insightful

It's funny how all these companies that are laying of U.S. workers talk about globalization. As a shareholder in many companies, I wonder why they don't outsource the Executive jobs? I mean why should I pay some U.S. CEO a billion dollars, when I can pay a similarly talented, if not more talented individual, from anywhere else in the world a million dollars to do the same job. People want globalization and capitalism for others, and they want protectionism and socialism for themselves. When they start outsourcing executive jobs and quit giving corporate America bailouts, I'll believe that everybody wants globalization and capitalism. Furthermore as a U.S. taxpayer, I have no problem with IBM offshoring every single last one of their jobs, just don't come to my government asking for business when you do. In fact feel free to move to these other countries that are so great for business, good riddance!

MLNN, if you think about it, a non-compete is a good idea, IF you happen to be in a sensitive position. If you worked for Google for a number of years and had an intimate knowledge of how their searching algorithm worked, would the brass really want you going to Yahoo with that knowledge being current? It would reduce Google's effectiveness as a company, and what's more, that's their proprietary data, which you might then pass on to another company.

A good idea for who? If I worked for Google and acquired knowledge of how their search engine works, that's my knowledge, it leaves with me. If they don't want me to acquire that knowledge they should do the work themselves. NDA's are complete crap, they are protectionism at it's best, and completely against the principles of a free market.

Nobody has a problem with them making a profit, what he's saying is they are screwing people over on the price, as it didn't cost them that much to make it. Hey they are free to charge a 500% markup, but when somebody else comes around with a competing product, we should hope they wouldn't run buy American Campaigns. Or if they should have fiscal problems down the road, we should hope they wouldn't ask us to bail them out. If the company is anything like the ones we see today though, that is highly unlikely.

My only suggestion to you is to treat this as an investment, an investment in yourself. Please for the love of god don't go to some school and pay 25,000 a year in tuition, find a deal, you can even do degrees online now so shop around, even better start off at community college. When you are done you will be much better off, and don't forget to enjoy the experience, school can be a lot of fun, obviously working full time it's harder, but try.

If I were a terrorist I would start going by common aliases, Mike Smith, John Doe, George Bush :-) Anyway just remember to give your kids really screwed up middle names like Zagggatttoorrr, so they don't wind up matching a name on this list.
