The only reason they're going cross-platform is that the tools are written in Java, which is already cross-platform.

Perhaps this is true, though I have never been a big fan of Java anyway. Seems silly to load Java libraries, files and stuff, just to install a non-Java dependent application. Silly really and a bit irritating.

As I started coding PHP Model - View - Controllers (MVCs) it seems that the model itself is less efficient than PHP code + HTTP, but I have to do some testing before I can be sure. Seems that the MVC unnecessarily recreates features built into HTTP and PHP. My guess is that tests will show a PHP MVC to be less efficient than PHP + HTTP, but that is just a hypothesis at this point. I wonder if performance will take enough of a hit that result in the server running the MVC to be able to host fewer connections, pages, etc...

As for cross-platform, in my experience only if you develop in Linux are your cross platfrom compatible with other operating systems. Since Microsoft does so many "unique" things in a non standards compliant way (leave you to discuss why as I already have an opinion based on experience in the industry) if you develop on a Microsoft platform you almost invariably create something that is incompatible with other operating systems.

Very one sided. Thus experience teaches you, avoid a Microsoft development environment if you want to port your application to any other operating system environment. If you only cater to Microsoft Operating systems this does not apply.

Never say never, though I agree with you that we can not get rid of all the BAD players in politics. With that said, apathy is definitely not helping us and working in the favor of the two party system that is slowly tearing America apart. .

While we can NOT get rid of them all, we can get rid of the ones on the committees preventing good ideas from coming to the floor of the House of Representatives and the floor of the Senate for a public vote that can be held up and used for/against politicians that are hurting America.

Best example, the Fairtax, first proposed in 1996, but prevented from coming out of committee for a floor vote. Anyone and everyone who runs in a local election AGAINST the Fairtax LOSSES the local election. Because its simple, easy to understand and FAIR to EVERYONE!

Whether you like the Fairtax or not is NOT THE POINT in this current discussion. Here is an idea, the Fairtax, that got invented by individuals (read NO PARTY AFFILIATION), whose name came from a focus group where a person said, wow, this is fair to everyone...or something like that, thus the name the Fairtax was born. First proposed in 1996! 13 years ago and still has not been voted on even once in either the Senate or the House of Representatives. Is that a system that is working? I think not.

Pelosi actually told all Democrats NOT to support the Fairtax...party politics. Party politics that we can no longer live with.

I am 100% positive there are other equally good examples, legislation, that does not have its genesis in either the Democrat party or the Republican party, proposed, all the i's dotted and t's crossed, yet it NEVER comes out of committee for a floor vote? Come on already. I honestly wish I had a list of them all, there has to be well over 50 great ideas that have never come out of those partisan lobbyist controlled committees. So get rid of the obstructionists in the committees, get the stuff to the floor for a vote and give Americans something they can look at that defines a candidates actions. Then Americans can vote for/against a candidate based on their record.

There is a reason most politicians that are seeking higher offices, avoid certain votes. Thus are system is broken. When a minority of Americans can control a politician based on their votes on a single issue or just a few issues, good people can not take their oath of office and attempt to fix it.

We can stop voting along party lines. Vote based on the person's record, actions only.

Get lobbyist (and corporate money) out of politics. Companies are NOT people, never should be, anyone who is pushing for individual rights for corporations needs to resign immediately for violating their oath of office. This is a domestic agenda gone awry for sure.

Find small business friendly communities, start your businesses there establish a strong foundation and then expand nationwide, than worldwide. Introduce competition to all the companies that are only interested in sending American dollars overseas. If they can only compete on price, that is a losing strategy long term always.

    Innovate or Die!

Currently most large corporations spend more money lobbying politicians than improving their products and services. These companies can NOT compete against honest Americans with good ideas providing honest to goodness customer service. I would not be surprised that the politicians supporting this type of legislation are all Republicans. Prove me wrong...

This is not why my ancestors died protecting our freedom...they disgust me personally and make life of American sacrifice since our countries founding. If an American gives their life, it needs to be for something more than business, that simply does not cut it..

Look at how, with the help of the Federal Reserve, they got Americans to buy into the FEAR part of their FUD so effectively that in spite of overwhelming objections by the majority of Americans (Republicans and Democrats) they gave Billions of American tax dollars to the Federal Reserve, banks, financial institutions. Other than the speed test, his upstream bandwidth never exceeds 100Kbps.

We are guessing a sustained 200Kbps or 300Kbps upstream would give steady consistent streaming of video and IP content. But that is a guess as the Cable provider has never let him have over 100Kbps. Even though he is paying over $50 per month for the Highest tier of Internet Only service that the cable provider swears and markets as allowing the customer to watch IP TV, movies and videos. The three tiers below that for Internet Only service DO NOT state specifically that you can watch streaming content at all.

His only solution is probably DSL, his location, based on distance will give him 1.5Mbps down and 384Kbps upstream...so its half the price of Cable, for him, and it will allow him to stream content.

Having two DSL providers would cost just as much as he is now paying for 1 cable provider...redundancy, thanks to DD-WRT and VLANs he feels he would be better off and is looking forward to switching...

They spent lobby money last year and plan to spend more lobbyist money this upcoming session of the North Carolina legislature in order to prevent Greenlight from expanding to other areas. They are also seeking to prevent any other companies or individuals from offering fiber to consumers. It can only be them and they do not want to offer Fiber to us. Of course they do not want Americans to remember that they (telcos) promised (and received our tax dollars for the promise) back in the 1990s to provide fiber to American homes...all the way to the home, not just to the general area or neighborhood and from their bandwidth limiting coaxial cable...its all a sham, and should be a crime!

In this instance, President Obama should not be looking down under and instead should be looking towards the rising sun!

All our politicians need to stop lining their pockets with lobbyist money and provide us with Fiber.

Who is with me, give me fiber or give me death! A bit extreme...perhaps, but we honestly need fiber!

We also need guaranteed minimum SUSTAINED bandwidths, say the FCC definition to start....768Kbps upstream and downstream sustained 99.99% of the time or the service can NOT, should NOT and SHALL NOT advertise itself as broadband.

I bet they would start putting Fiber over the last mile then!

. It's because we want to isolate functionality to minimize the risk of getting hacked. It's well known that connecting a Windows computer directly to the Internet will result in it getting P0wned in almost no time. And *nix computers, while better, can still be vulnerable.

    You said it.

I still get burned up with the Cable company when they want me to jump through hoops to troubleshoot my cable connection, because they are artificially restricting my access via software and do not want to admit that simple fact, and the first thing they want you to do is pull out/turn off your firewall/router (hardware device) or shutdown your router software only solution and connect directly up to their cable modem. Makes me want to SCREAM and churn!

Even more offensive when you did not have any problems for years, all the same hardware and software until they (the cable company), in their infinite wisdom, rolled out new software to your area to enhance/improve your service, right, not. (Bandwidth Shaping, throttling, Deep Packet Inspection, who knows what); all you know is they installed something new between you and the Internet and the end result is your service is now providing you a fraction of the bandwidth you use to get. And before, you would have been better off with DSL instead of a Cable modem from a bandwidth perspective specifically. Now even more so.

Does DSL throttle back service, for instance if you are told that they can provide 384K up and 1.5Mbps down, do you get 100% of that or only a fraction? Please no replies that are ONLY OPINIONS, someone with the DD-WRT software running on a hardware firewall/router that has DSL service (anyone), please check your status / bandwidth windows and tell me what you see happening as I need to know if I would be better off to switch away from cable. (I.e my cable Speed test is phenomenal; their service marketing promise is good (up to 8MB, 10MB, 12MB or 14MPB) also; however the reality sucks. I do not consistently get better than 40Kbps upstream and 100Kbps downstream. I am talking consistent, constant steady, no drops, no rises, service..... Note: if you are NOT using the DD-WRT software that shows this in REAL TIME, 24 X 7 or you are not running a commercial router ($600 - $2000 per), whose software will show this in real time; you HONESTLY DO NOT KNOW. Of course they do NOT shape, throttle the Speed Test, hint, hint.

And years after its proven beyond any doubt that a hardware firewall/router is superior to software running on a PC; they are suggesting that this type of software router is gaining market share or becoming more popular, I certainly hope not as that means people are getting dumber....I do not believe that. I do not want to believe that people are getting dumber....
