I think its beautiful, because linus is not a PR person for linux. He does interviews out of nicety, he leads out of necissity. He is NOT in any huge rush to get Linux to the top of the world, that is why is such an effective leader and that is why he has the respect he has. As he said in this interview he has no LEGAL right to anything except the Linux trademark. People listen out of respect, people use his tree out of trust, etc, etc. If anything...any common person should be able to understand that very bold statement:

The most important person involved in Linux development has no official authority and no official position. That sums up the community alot IMHO, and is exactly what makes Linux so unique. This isnt a PR press release.

linus doesnt bitch about RH making money or anyone for that matter. He doesnt bitch. He protects his trademark of Linux, but thats it. You can do what you want with the linux kernel. I bet you could take it, fork it and call it the GnuRules kernel if you really wanted to.

maybe gnu would get respect if they werent a bunch of whiny bitches. I used to respect them. I used to give them 'props' but the second gnu started being such a bitch, I began to treat them like bitches.

Really, this is an extremely retarded ask slashdot...what are the answers going to be? My baseball bat is lighter and stronger. Replace baseball bat with golf club, etc. I mean there should be little direct impact of technology on sport, or the sport is sucked out of it. But I suppose we would need to agree on what a sport is for that one...or we run into racecars and other technocentric activities.

A more realistic question would be how has technology enhanced the training aspect of your sport. That makes sense. Golf swing analysis, hell video tapes are an indispensable tool for team sports.

    Anyways. Worthless ask slashdot question.

We arent talking theory. We arent talking natural law, we aren't talking moral law. We are talking criminal law. We are talking of laws created that specifically target attempts and label them as a crime.

You may find that silly. You may disagree. But it's true! Please, don't get confused.

An attempt is in itself an act punishable according to law, especially here in the US. This isn't punishing thought crimes, this is covering ATTEMPTS that FAIL. Please note that MURDER and ATTEMPTED MURDER are two distinct seperable crimes. While I will agree that alot of conspiracy laws are quite overboard and nearing very much on thought or more accurately planning crimes, attempted crimes seem perfectly reasonable to me.

But perhaps...you won't mind being shot at by someone who wants you dead. The get arrested, but only for minor gun violations since attempting something isn't a crime. Then they come back and finish the job. Say goodbye to your shack.

So in closing. Attempts are CRIMES! Because the LAW says so. You MAY THINK the LAW is WRONG. Boo hoo. Coming on Slashdot and saying Attempting to commit a crime is not a crime is like crying to your mother that her rules arent fair. You may not like it! Or even sexual content! The directors know what they are working with and build around the limits.

Dont like it? Then watch only independent films. I highly doubt anyones cutting to get pg13, in fact usually its the opposite. A movie will get returned with a pg13 and they will recut to R because your average adult will not want to see a pg13 labelled movie.

I agree with the nudity thing, thats our culture. Move? its a slow process to change. But you are way off base with the cutting rant.

Big Label Movies are as much artform as Big Label Music: unless its done by an established *rich* prominent person, the studio is gonna dictate alot. its not a bullshit argument. no, there may be no inherent RIGHT to the product. Likewise there is no inherent RIGHT to protection. The current protection system is corporateserving and corrupt. Illegal != immoral, as you alluded to.

When a cop pulls me over, I understand why they did. But I may not necessarily think what they did is moral. Insofar as it is their job, yes. But there are towns in my state who use traffic tickets as a sole source of profit. Roads are zoned for tickettaking. Roads that arent profitable are not enforced as much. I find this immoral and a waste of my tax money.

The system is fucked. Do you get uneccesarily mad at the messenger? No. But do you take it up the ass like you really deserved it? No. The line needs to be drawn somewhere.
