Would you call any computations concerning Bisco, Bisco-Math? IIRC, wasn't Bisco-Math the primary means of computation in one of Douglas Adams' ships in the Hitchhikers Guide Trilogy?
Want to see how slow IE is when it doesnt have any help from the OS? Go to 98lite.net, download ieradicator, install it, reboot, run explorer now
Not quite as smooth is it?
Windows runs faster, just might need to find another file browser, Winfile.exe is still around.
It is probably too late in the game to implement but why couldnt.com point to.co.us in the united states and.co.uk on the United Kingdom, etc. As in if a company was an international company like Yahoo!, if someone in the States typed Yahoo.com they would go to yahoo.co.us, if someone in Germany typed yahoo.com they would go to yahoo.co.de, etc
I work for Radio Shack and we had a training seminar with a MSN representative a month ago. I explicitly asked during the Q&A session if the satellite service would work with 'alternate' operating systems. He kinda floundered saying something about it wouldnt be supported. I tracked him down after the meeting and managed to find out that it uses a satellite decoder that strips off the encryption and passes standard TCP/IP through an ethernet port. So in case you're wondering if it'll work with your Linux/BeOS/*BSD/etc box the short answer is YES!
The 2-way satellite connection is provided by Gilat-To-Home a digision of Gilat which has been used by companies for a while now. The dish has to be professionally installed to make sure you dont accidentally transmit at a military satellite or something. To alleviate the problem of rain fade common in DTHTV signals, the receiver will step down its reception speed to verify all incoming packets. The advertized speeds are minimumn upload of 128kbps, nominal 384kbps and maximum burstable download speed of 1.5Mbps.
Please come get one. They take up too much room in my already crowded back room. Problem is the way our distribution works, theyll probably send me twice as many. Good thing my company isnt fitting the bill on this otherwise my stock might devalue.
I dont care how a national standard is reached, I just hope its CDMA instead of TDMA. CDMA is digital spread spectrum with a unique ID for each phone on the network. TDMA is timesharing. In crowded areas TDMA gets a noticable waver in the sound or breaks up repeatedly. CDMA can allow up to 45 conversations over the same frequency band.
Installed user base. Radio Shack for one has SCO OpenServer running their servers in each store. Of course that replaced a Tandy 1000 running some custom OS just a few years ago.
I'm actually suprised it took this long for this story to get on/. because I heard about it on ZDTV over a month ago. They didnt think it would fly and neither do I. If you use napster for downloading 1-10MB MP3s then you know why it'll never work for multiGB movies. There's nothing wrong with hosting movies on a passworded FTP serv unless the movie companies just want free hosting instead of paying for the bandwidth for downloads.
Could constructing a site that only works for IE 5.5 be considered poor design? Maybe we'll see the changes to HTML never implemented if designers think they'll get sued for using them.
The way the doppler effect for light is calculated (red shift/blue shift) is dependant on the molecules/atoms that emitted the light. For instance, Hydrogen emits several frequencys of visible light when it is heated. If the pattern of frequencys is detected (by a spectroscope) higher than normal then the object is moving toward the observer. If they are lower then it is moving away. If the gamma rays are emitted by a particular atom then the pattern would be know and the doppler shift could be calculated.
If they are planning on enforcing their patent they should go after the biggest problems first: Microsoft's Hotmail service Yahoo! If they try against any others it might be seen as a double standard.
Radio Shack can order any of the lingo series of translators for decent prices, some have a text to speech converter to help with pronunciation. Most Radio Shack salespeople dont know they exist however, just ask to see the home office section in the RSU catalog(a 2 foot wide catalog, usually installed near the counters)
I'm not the only geek in my church. Someone had to set up the projection monitor in the auditorium. Too bad its hooked up to a Win32 box instead of our favorite open source operating system{s}. I'm planniong on hooking up a cam to the box and broadcast my wedding in RealVideo. Yes you heard me right im getting married and she's a geek too!

I dont think they will ever truly replace AOL cds. They just wont fly the same.

the receiver uses standard TCP/IP over ethernet to hook to the box
If you take a look at Gilat-To-Home you will see thay advertise it as an 'always-on-internet' connection so my guess is that means unlimited access.

Hmm would that have anything to do with the strange dreams ive been having or was that just from listening to Pink Floyd too much?

Order em through Radio Shack.
Small cameras start at $79.
I remember a commandline argument for doom that could be used to set up side views
3 seperate pcs over a network but it would still be cool
I tried netscape 4.5 and mozilla in Win32 and neither choaked on the page. Loaded in about the same time.
