  1. Re:New Meaning on Misdemeanor Plea Ends Norwich Pornography Case · · Score: 4, Informative

    I didn't follow this closely but per a previous /. article http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/01/13/0753209

    1) an expert found the computer was infected on a hairstyling site, not porn surfing

    2) "Amero testified that she had told four other teachers and the assistant principal about the popups, but received no assistance. "

    3) "The school's internet filtration software was not working because it's license had expired."

Whether she had the technical ability to install a cleansing tool I don't know, but many businesses and institutions these days have policies about installing anything without approval... It wouldn't suprise me if the school rules barred her from installing something to fix herself.

I also imagine she received better treatment than if she were a male

But this guy fabricated much of it himself. A hand formed aluminum body. Wow. (although I would have considered fiberglass, wouldn't aluminum acquire rock dings?) The engine is a 351 Cleveland (Ford), alot less expensive to buy/build/maintain than an authentic Lambo engine, and still a beast.

Nice work Ken. Need more pics though

  5. various brands of aerosol cleaners out there too on Recovering Moldy Electronics? · · Score: 1

I got some aerosol circuit cleaner from Radioshack some years back and it worked well.

My problem was the opposite of yours tho. I picked up a couple scorched computers that were in a fire.... The cases melted down they looked hopeless, the drives were toast, and I didn't trust the power supplies. But suprisingly the motherboards (intel?), memory and P3's all lived. Maybe still running today, I don't know I gave them away at some point. There was a good layer of soot/smell and the Rat Shack cleaner got it all off.

CRC makes a QD Electronic Part Cleaner sold at autostores, I use that for cars. Just looked at the can it has Hexane. Not sure if it would be good for circuit boards. In addition to cleaning connectors I found it really cleans up plastic connectors too, hit the plastic with some Aerospace 303 protectant afterwards and you'll swear its new.

Stuff like this gets expensive if you need many cans, so maybe bulk alcohol of some sort that others recommended. I'd recommend some kind of spray bottle so you can get a pressurized stream

If they release good quality linux drivers I think S3 could make a name for themselves once again. The netbook and low-end pc market is growing. AFAIK even nVidia does not have any kind of HD video acceleration with their linux drivers.

Otherwise most windows geeks already have a preference of either nVidia or ATI, so this would largely go ignored and only end up in the laps of those who don't know the difference or who just got the latest hot deal.

  10. The problem with devices like the I-RAM on How Big Should My Swap Partition Be? · · Score: 1

is that standard HD interfaces are slower than the RAM. I don't care if its IDE, SATA, u320 SCSI, whatever, they're all a helluva lot slower. Last I looked, which was a while ago, they only held a few GBs too. DDR2 is dirt cheap if you have a modern motherboard that takes it. I know the IRAM requires the older and more expensive DDR (DDR1) which would be expensive for 4x 1GB modules and the IRAM. A software RAMdisk and a UPS would seem a better choice for a hobbyist desktop, 4x2GB DDR2 could be had for less than $20/GB

The DDRDrive that was mentioned, is this out yet or still vaporware? They have the right idea with PCIe interface but it only holds 4 modules (DDR1?). Without battery backup to be an advantage, more RAM on the motherboard would again seem to be a more attractive choice.

The OP said he has 64GB already, may be more helpful if he elaborated on that. If thats 256 peices of 256MB modules I dunno WTF you'd do with that. But if 4GB modules installed in something like a 16-slot supermicro x7db8+ beast that could be fun

A number of notable features including:

what looks to be some good Spam Filters,

SSL encryption on IMAP and SMTP

    Server Side Sorting

Multiple E-mail Addresses Per Account - multiple domain names, but want them all pointing to a single e-mail account,

Catchall Address - redirect all of the e-mail for a domain that isn't addressed to a valid user into a specific catchall account

and plans range from FREE to $8-$16 per year. This place is worth a read. Kind of has an aura reminiscent of nearlyfreespeech.net (webhost) maybe they should team up.

I've been comparing some email hosts and many look like they get expensive if you want a few domains / variations and a few addresses even for light use. I'm pretty certain the above features would work great for receiving. Maybe a naive question, but when sending email out from different addresses, to the recipient will it truly look like it is coming from a seperate account / domain?
